Hi @dhorsh,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15 is plugged into the AC adapter but is not charging, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue.
Check the AC Adapter and Power Source
- Ensure the power outlet works: Plug another device into the same outlet to confirm it’s functioning.
- Inspect the AC adapter: Check for visible damage to the cable or the connector.
- Test another power adapter: If possible, borrow or test with another compatible HP AC adapter.
Verify the Connection
- Ensure the adapter is securely plugged into both the laptop and the wall outlet.
- Check the charging port for any debris or damage that might interfere with the connection.
Perform a Power Reset
- Shut down your laptop and disconnect it from the power adapter.
- Remove the battery (if it’s removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and adapter, and try charging again.
Check the Battery and Charging Indicator
- Look for any lights on the laptop that indicate charging.
- If the battery icon in Windows shows “Plugged in, not charging,” the issue may be software-related.
Update or Reinstall Battery Drivers
- Open Device Manager (Press Windows + X > Select Device Manager).
- Expand Batteries and right-click on:
- Microsoft AC Adapter
- Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
- Choose Uninstall Device for both.
- Restart the laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.
- Check if the laptop starts charging.

Check for BIOS Update
- Outdated BIOS firmware may cause charging issues.
- Visit HP’s support page to check for a BIOS update for your specific model.
- Caution: Follow instructions carefully when updating the BIOS to avoid system damage.
Test Without the Battery (If Removable)
- Remove the battery (if removable) and connect the AC adapter directly.
- If the laptop powers on and works fine without the battery, the issue might be with the battery itself.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
