BIOS update file does not run on 2 laptops, nothing happens! (F.45 Rev.A sp155581.exe) The file is simply installed in the C:\SWSetup folder, but the BIOS installation does not occur; previously, the BIOS installation occurred without problems.

Hi @Bobik2, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the BIOS update file is not running as expected on your two laptops. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot this issue:
Run as Administrator: Right-click on the BIOS update file (sp155581.exe) and select Run as Administrator. This may provide the necessary permissions for the update process to run properly.
Check for Antivirus Interference: Sometimes antivirus software can prevent the BIOS update process from executing. Try temporarily disabling your antivirus and running the update again.
Compatibility Mode: If the file isn't running, try running it in compatibility mode. Right-click the BIOS update file, go to Properties, then under the Compatibility tab, select Run this program in compatibility mode for and choose a previous version of Windows (e.g., Windows 10).
Manual BIOS Update: Since the BIOS file is unpacked in the C:\SWSetup folder, you can try manually updating the BIOS. Here's how:
- Navigate to the folder where the update files are extracted.
- Look for a README file or any documentation that can guide you through the manual update process.
- Sometimes there will be a setup file or an executable specifically designed to run the update from the command line.
Use HP Support Assistant: If you haven't already, try using the HP Support Assistant application to automatically check for and install the BIOS update.
Check for Power Issues: Make sure your laptop is plugged into power and the battery is sufficiently charged. BIOS updates can fail if there's a power issue during the process.
Perform a Hard Reset: Perform a hard reset (shut down the laptop, remove the power cable, and hold the power button for 15 seconds). Afterward, try running the BIOS update again.
Re-download the File: The update file may have been corrupted during download. Delete the current BIOS file and download it again from HP's support website to ensure you're using the latest version.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Bobik2, Thank you for your response.
I see you've already tried those steps, and it still isn't working. Let's dive deeper into some additional solutions:
1. Check for Corrupted BIOS Files
Since the update files unpack but don't proceed, it's possible the BIOS file itself is corrupted. Try these steps:
- Redownload the BIOS file: Go to HP's official support page for your laptop model and download the BIOS update again.
- Check File Integrity: Sometimes, a file may download with an issue. You can use tools like 7-Zip to extract the contents and see if there's a specific error.
2. BIOS Recovery Mode (Blind Update)
If the BIOS update file won’t run normally, you may need to perform a recovery. Here’s how you can force a BIOS recovery on HP laptops:
- Download the BIOS update file and extract it to a USB flash drive.
- On the USB drive, create a folder called HPBIOS.
- Place the BIOS file (sp155581.exe) into the HPBIOS folder.
- Rename the BIOS file to something simple like BIOS.FXX (e.g., BIOS.F45).
- Shutdown the laptop, insert the USB into a USB port, and hold down the Windows + B keys while pressing the power button to start the laptop.
- Hold the keys until the BIOS update process begins. The screen may remain blank for a while, but the laptop will eventually proceed with the update.
3. BIOS File Extraction via Command Prompt
You can attempt to manually extract and run the BIOS update through the command line:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Navigate to the folder containing the BIOS update file (C:\SWSetup).
- Run the BIOS file through the command prompt by typing sp155581.exe /s /f (the /s flag makes the process silent, and /f forces the update to run).
- If the BIOS update file has specific switches for silent or forced installation, this method might help bypass some issues.
4. Flash BIOS Using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
HP PCs sometimes allow BIOS updates to be applied through the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool. Try these steps:
- Restart your PC and press Esc or F2 to enter the BIOS diagnostics screen.
- Navigate to BIOS Management or Firmware Update section.
- If there is an option for "Update from USB" or "Update from File", select that and point to the BIOS update file on a USB drive.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
