My Laptop 15s-eq1xxx, I would like to upgrade my RAM , However it only has 1 ram slot which has a 4gb ram. So I wanted to know If I can replace it  for either a 8gb ram or 16gb ram as there's no second slot. Thank you

If it only has one memory slot, the service manual indicates the max memory is 1 x 8 GB in each slot.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC

If you want to experiment with a single 16 GB memory chip, run this command first:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

If the report returns a result of 33,xxx,xxx, then a 16 GB chip may work because the report is picking up the circuitry for the second memory slot which isn't there and the notebook would have supported 2 x 16 GB of memory if there were two working memory slots.

If it reports 16,xxx,xxx, then 8 GB in the slot would be the max.

Thank you so much, it showed up as 33,xxx,xxx, so i’ll try a 16gb chip.

Thanks once again
