The key, responsible for closing back panel and battery is stuck. So I can't neither remove battery nor close back panel (ram, hdd and wifi cover).

Please advice.

It sounds like the battery or Service cover is not seating correctly.  Is the slide of the Lock to one side, or centered?

For this latching mechanism, it should be centered. The battery has to be removed by moving the latch toward the center of the notebook, before the Service Cover can be removed (by moving the latch the opposite direction).

If the cover is not seated correctly, the latch can be tight.  You might work around the edges of the Service cover and press downward to see if the edges will pop into place.  Once in place it should take the pressure off the latching mechanism.

If the battery is not seated correctly, you might get your finger nails on the inner edge and apply a slight upward and toward the rear pressure while moving the latch.

I do not see pressure being relieved by removing any screws.  The bottom looks to be a solid molded piece with the latch fitted to it.

The lock is on one side (position to remove service cover). I can't move the lock. I'm just wondering if I can do something or is the lock broken ?

As a result of this situation I can't remove battery, because I can move the lock  on opposite direction. At the same time I cant pop into place service cover, because the lock is not working.

When I try to move the lock to centric position I can't do it, because it's tight and I afraid to broke it.

Thanks for assist!

Under normal operation the latch cannot be moved to the side to release the Service Cover with the battery installed.  The latch may only be jammed and not broken.  I will look at dv6-6xxx and see if I can come up with another option.

I looked at a dv6-6000 which looks like the 6077 in the manual at this link:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02745432.pdf

I moved the latch to the Cover Remove position  and put the battery in.  This locked the latch in that position an it would not move toward the center. In this position I put my finger nails in the inner groove of the battery and applied upward pressure.  The battery popped out without having to move the latch.  This tells me that the latch mechanism wasn't actually holding the battery in place.  Your latch may not be holding the battery either.

Another option  would be to use a thin plastic tool to press the tabs in on the edges of the Service Cover.  You can see the tabs at the link above. The tabs on the left side (not seen in the diagram at the link above, are very short and they are horizontal rather than vertical so they can insert into a slot. The cover does flex, so you may be able to flex it and  pop it off gaining access the latch mechanism.

Hopefully, this will help you to get the battery out without forcing anything to a breaking point.

Thanks for support - the problem is solved.

I've just removed battery (it was not actually locked) and the lock returned to normal-centric position. Then I've installed service cover properly and installed battery back.

I like HP products and agile support!

Hi Sandeepkohli,

The only thing I can suggest is that you review the steps listed earlier in this post.

I recommend that you do not try exessive force at first.  Work slow and patiently.

I had the same exact problem with my new Pavillion dm4. I worked it slowly as described with a couple of thin plastic cards and it finally came out. I bought an additional battery (9 cell) and needed to switch out the 6 cell. I think this sometimes happens when you install the battery in a different sequence than you are suppose to (at least I think this is what happened to me). Remember to install the end with the tabs (back side of computer) in first and then slowly snap the other side of battery down into place.

Thanks a lot for this post. I just had the same problem and solved it reading this.

What I did to cause the problem was, I removed the battery by sliding the button to the left. Then I realized that the RAM bay could be opened by sliding the same switch to the right, which I though was pretty cool and tried right away.  The RAM bay cover came slightly off and not all the way out. I then installed the battery back ok with the RAM cover slightly off and that locked averything as you described here.

To fix it, I used my nails to pull the battery out of the laptop. It seems to be latched in place it wont fall off, but as you mentioned here is not locked in placed by the latch.

After I removed the battery I was able to close the RAM bay correctly and the latch came back to the center position, then I installed the batter as nomal.

Thank you !!
