HP ENVY x360 - 15-cp0008ca windows ver 21h1. I open the laptop, laptop plugged in. After about 5 mins, the cursor starts going crazy and goes on the bottom right and keeps moving left and right. After many many many different attempts to fix it the only solution I found it's to disconnect the power cord from the laptop and run on battery power. As soon I plug it back up in about 2 to 5 mins it starts doing it again, so basically, the only way for the cursor to behave correctly it's to run the laptop on battery power. What could be the issue? is there interference with the power supplier or something to do with a software problem with the temperature control of the fan? Please need help before I throw this laptop out thru the window. The cursor not working prop

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I understand that your HP notebook cursor is not working correctly when ac adapter is connected. 

This could be happening due to a software driver glitch, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps: 

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (Refer to the removable and sealed battery)
BIOS default:(do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and    Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

I did everything on the pelt and reset the computer. Does the same thing with the cursor after a while. I have to unplug the power cord for it to stop. As soon I plug it back to power it does it again after 1 minutes or 2. Is the power adapter making interference with the cursor?

Thank you for posting back. 

 

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. let's try few more steps: 

  • 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
  • 2. Expand batteries.
  • 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
  • 4. Shut down the computer. 
  • 5. Disconnect the charger.
  • 6. Remove the battery. (only for removable battery)
  • 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
  • 8. Insert the battery only. (only for removable battery)
  • 9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

If the issue persists, follow the next steps.

Perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating) 

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hi, before your answer I downloaded AMD Radeon Adrenaline software, after reboot the moving cursor stopped, magically.

So for now it's working fine. I guess the software is managing something that has to do with power management of the chipset that was affecting the cursor. I will keep note of your message just in case. Thank for your help.
