HP Stream Laptop 11-y0XX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am unable to complete the latest Windows 10 update due to lack of disk space. I do not store any pictures, videos, or music on this computer. I use Dropbox for my personal files. I do have Microsoft Office and McAfee installed. The only apps on the computer are the ones that came on the computer. I have recently inserted a micro SD card. What can I move to free up space in order to complete the update? Is there anything else I can do to free up space?

I a novice so please spell out any directions I need to follow lol!!

Which update version are you trying to install on this unit?

Hello there,

You could try to free up spaces with below link:

This is what it is saying needs to be updated:

2018-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4088889).

Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709.

So I think you can refer to session "Configuring Storage sense to free up space (Windows 10 Fall Creators Update)" at the link I posted above

In short, you will FAIL doing upgrade.

Stream notebooks are very much budget oriented machines that do not have even bare minimum resources for performing factory reset or feature build updates of Microsoft.

I suggest you back up your data and try a clean install of latest build i.e.,1709 directly using Microsoft windows media creation tool by creating UEFI bootable installation USB.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-create-bootable-usb-flash-drive-install-windows-10-a.html

Clean install: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-clean-install-windows-10-a.html

You may need to disable secure boot, plug in USB, thereafter change boot order from BIOS to continue to boot and install from USB:

https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04784866

https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01443326

Windows will be automatically activated on installation while connected to internet.

Next MS build is 1803 coming on April 2nd week. So I would wait for that and directly install that.

Also I'll not install McAfee antivirus. Windows defender is more than enough in Windows 10 especially since there is not much space to accommodate additional third party softwares
