HP Spectre x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-eu0000 (7K634AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello. I have had a Spectre x360 14 for an year now. For months now, I've seen this: fans are always on when the device is charging. No matter what's the cpu temperature, if the laptop is in charge, the fan is spinning. I see no difference when in MyHP the power profile is set to silence or cool , or between maximum performance and power efficiency in windows settings. In BIOS fan always on setting is disabled. The laptop is cool to the touch and HWMonitor shows CPU temps lower than 60°C, often lower than 50°C. Once the battery reaches 100%, it sometimes slows the fan, and rarely switches it off for a couple of seconds. I already notified HP via phone support, but they told me it's normal behaviour. I don't think so, since it's not always been the case, and, moreover, this is an almost 2000$ PC, which I expect not to be stupid. If it's cold inside and outside, why is the fan going? And if there were a reason, why does it stop when I unplug the charger??

Hi @AxTx

A temperature between 50 and 60 degrees should turn on the fans. When the charger is used, it not only heats up the CPU, but also the GPU and the battery, and if the temperature of these is high, the fans are activated. You should keep in mind that many notebooks are configured for maximum performance with the charger connected and this activates the fans.

In any case, check the support page for your model to see if it has BIOS updates.

I set the laptop to maximum power efficiency, disabled processor performance boost mode in power options, and set MyHP to quiet mode.
Anyways, this does not explain why it doesn't spin the fan AS SOON AS the charger is unplugged, and why it didn't always behave like this.

My BIOS is updated to the latest available.

when you put the loader, programs are activated in the background, it always increases the efficiency because the graphics can not regulate them and they heat up more. deactivate your programs in the background and you will see that you have improvements. if you have an intel graphics card, enter the control panel and configure the power performance.

So what you are saying is that I have no real problem, so a top tier laptop is designed to have always on fan with 3% CPU utilization, 0% NPU utilisation, 1% GPU utilization. All this with a package at 47°C. With a profile called Quiet mode. (I just described the situation right now)

If this is the best HP can do, I'll never buy or advise an HP product ever again.

I do not mean that, but it depends on the configuration that you have the programs in the background etc, update the graphics drivers.

I have a business laptop, the fans can be activated even when the laptop is sleep mode, because I have it connected to the power and after a few minutes it turns off again, that is because a program is activated in the background when it is connected to the power, I have another high-end laptop and the fans are always active.
