Microsoft Windows 11

I owned HP Elitebook 630 G9, and there was no fingerprint module installed.

I contacted the services center in Indonesia (Surabaya) and gave my laptop "Serial Number" and "Product Number", who said that my laptop was available for an additional fingerprint module. They mentioned the type and number of parts that I need to purchase. However I don't have enough time to go there for that upgrade.

Serial Number : xxxxxxx
Product Number : xxxxxx
Description : HP EliteBook 630 G9

N00879-001 SPS-PCA FPR MODULE

M21138-001 SPS-CABLE KIT 13

I decided to find that part in an online store. After I installed the parts, it was not detected on my laptop.

After some research, I found that some BIOS settings must be changed.

Refer to this document: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/158136.pdf

it said that a menu "Advanced\Built-in Devices Options\Fingerprint Device" needs to be enabled.

However I checked on my laptop, and there was no option about Fingerprint Device.

I already install the latest BIOS and still nothing.

Could you help me, with how to enable the Fingerprint Device in My Laptop?

Thank you

Hello.

The BIOS will show the setting when it detects the fingerprint sensor.

The cable kit has multiple cables. The different cables may have specific twists and turns for correct cable routing. Each cable is for a specific device so make sure you are using the correct cable for the fingerprint reader. From the image in the Service Guide it looks short and straight.

Try reseating the cable again on both ends. Gently push the cable into the ZIF connector when you are locking the latch to make a good connection. The cable must go in straight, not in an angle.

Thanks Jupitero,

I already tested the flexible cable, it's 8-pins cable. I already tested each pin using tester, every line should be good.

I already followed the instructions Service Guide that you shared. However, my Bios does not detect it.

One important point, my laptop originally does not have fingerprint modul. This is an additional upgrade. Don't you think there is something that I need to do with the BIOS, like unlock some feature or something else? Thr device manager under windows 11 also does not detect the fingerprint modul.

Hi,

It is not forbidden or blocked by HP to upgrade laptops (or desktops) as long as you use HP approved parts that are meant for your laptop model. It is also not unusual for HP service to install components to laptops that didn't have them before.

It is of course possible that the fingerprint reader or the system board is faulty. Did it come in a sealed HP box?

Windows Device Manager can see the fingerprint reader only after the BIOS detects the fingerprint reader and the device is enabled in BIOS.

At this point your options would be to:

- test the fingerprint reader in another laptop. This fingerprint reader is compatible with most, if not all, Probook 4xx G9/G10 and Elitebook 6xx G9/G10 models;

- ask for a warranty replacement reader;

- take the laptop to a authorized HP service and ask them to diagnose.
