2.5 inch SATA SSD in the hard drive slot is your best bet. See the video here which shows one installed and then a mechanical hard drive in an adapter connected to the optical drive (DVD) port. Possible to do but I do not recommend. The Manuals are no longer posted by HP but I recall this model also has an M.2 SATA port on the backside of the motherboard, but it would not perform any better than the 2.5 inch SATA in the hard drive slot and removing the motherboard is quite a bit more work. .
