Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

My hp pavilion dv6 has just started to not power up when pressing the start button. Simple solution is to unplug the power cord, take out the battery - then replace the battery, plug in the power lead and press the power button.

This should fix the problem on start up.

This is not what we should have to do as it seems to be a common problem with these computers. Mine is just over 18 months old and this problem has been occuring for the past month. HP should recall and fix this issue.

Last time I buy an HP unless they do something.

We need to file a class action lawsuit to get HP to recall and fix these defective DV-6000 units... There is a major problem with these units blacking out...

My DV-6000 was working fine until i stored it and did not use it for 4 months, then when i needed to use it, it would not power up...

I cant understand how something can break that is not even being used...

Problem with your power cord or pin, you need to replace your power pin of power supply. your power wire is short. thanks.

It's NOT the power cord or pin. That would be a cheap fix if it were. My described "fix" of freezing the unit has NOTHING to do with changing the power cord/pin or battery whatsoever (other than removing before freezing). There is some connection within the computer, likely the motherboard where connections are expanded/contracted due to temperature and hence my solution posted earlier works. Sorry I don't have and can't give you a thorough understanding of my  solution BUT it does work. I'm sure HP knows exactly where the problem is but out of warranty simply tell you to GO AWAY!

Dear HP,

I am gone and will never return. I'll also share my experience with anyone who will listen.

The power cord and adaptor are not the problem... I have tried 2 different ones and still i dont even get the battery charging indicator light to light up... Freezing did not work either... The reason the freexing worked for some is because HP used sub-standard soder on the mother-boards and when the unit gets hot it melts and the connections break down over time...

The repair Tech said my video GPU had shorted out, but i can't undestand how it can short out if the unit has no power cord or battery and was not even being used...

Also nVidea was sued for selling defective GPU chips and lost there case... both of my units have one of these defective chips, but HP failed to notifiy me of the defect when i contacted them and chatted live with a agent... That makes HP liable for the repairs since they had the oppertunity to place the blame on nvidea by informing me i needed to file before the deadline... HP failed to do so and i saved my incident numbers with the date and time stamps as proof...

The class action suit against nVidia opened the door for a class action suit against HP for failure to inform buyers of these units with the defective nVidia GPU chips...

Well, OK, I read a number of sites concerning the variety of headaches related to this series of notebooks.

Hard to believe that operating temps would melt solder but more plausible that defective solder joints could expand/contract with failing connections.

Note that I am using the updated term notebook and not laptop. Encouraging people to use these devices on their laps blocks air circulation and cooling fans. I recently was gifted two GV6 HPs that were continually shutting down. Blew compressed air into and around every possible opening without even removing the fans/motherboard etc and all sorts of dust and debris exhausted. (I did immobilize the fan by inserting a toothpick through the vent before using the air) All is well.and I now own 2 newish notebooks.

Toddster, does the unit click on at all... even for a second? If so, try the freezing technique a few times. If it doesn't power on at all, I suppose your problem is different from mine.

Sorry situation but the masses have become accustomed to inferior products.

Class actions usually benefit only the lawyer...

ps, judging from the number of views these posts are getting, there are others who are similarly suffering.

Thanks for nothing HP.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem??? I really don't want to buy a new computer right now. Please let me know.

My HP DV6000 will not turn on when I press power on - the power button lights and some of the other lights come on for a second, but go out as soon as you release power on. The light at the power cord lights up. The hard drive light does not come on and there are no beeps.  Is this an indication that there is a bad chip?  Can it be fixed?  If so, by whom?  Is this a problem of defective parts?

I purchased the laptop new from Staples in 2008, and when I called HP support and give them my HP's serial number, they informed me that the computer was registered to someone else.

I faced same issue. But my Pavilion dv6 Laptop working inside A/C room. only one time can start out side A/C within few hours after keeping it inside A/C room. HP authorized repairers also couldn't find issue and they ask 2 replace motherboard.
If someone got solution, pls let me know.
