HP Pavilion 14 Laptop PC 14-dv2000 (4Z017AV)

Hi there, my laptop is not holding charge and currently will not turn on. It is currently plugged in as the last time it was switched on, the battery had 6 per cent and detected ‘low power power mode’. There is no light suggesting the laptop is currently charging, and when I try to turn it on, a white light next to the charging port flashes three times. This is the second time this has happened to me as it also happened when the laptop was 6 months old.  I posted here about it but found no solutions, and took it back to the shop. The shop didn’t want to send it back to HP as it miraculously started charging for them and diagnostics didn’t pick up any problem when they turned the laptop back on. A year later, I am experiencing the same problem, and shortly before the laptop turned off on this occasion, I also ran diagnostics in HPassistant and nothing was picked up, and yet it is now no longer turning on. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on? The laptop is now out of warranty even though this happened when the laptop was 6 months old….

Hi @EmmaM6

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with an intermittent charging issue on your HP Pavilion, where the laptop doesn't hold a charge, and now it won't turn on at all. The three-flash white light next to the charging port is a diagnostic code that may indicate a specific issue.

Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions for your issue:

1. Three-Flashing Light Next to Charging Port (Error Code)

The three-flash white light next to the charging port is often a battery or charging circuit error code. HP laptops use this to indicate a problem with the battery or charging system. A common reason for this could be:

  • Battery Failure
  • Charging Port or Adapter Issue
  • Power Circuit Failure
  • Faulty Internal Connections

2. Troubleshooting the Issue

Option 1: Perform a Hard Reset

To rule out any temporary issues with the laptop's power circuit, perform a hard reset.

  1. Power off the laptop completely (disconnect the charger).
  2. Remove the battery (if it’s removable, as some HP Pavilion models have non-removable batteries).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to drain any residual power from the laptop.
  4. Reinsert the battery (if removable) and plug in the charger.
  5. Try to power it on again.

This can sometimes help resolve any issues related to power delivery.

Option 2: Test the AC Adapter and Charging Port

  1. Inspect the AC adapter for any visible damage. Ensure that the charging cable and charging port are clean and not obstructed.
  2. Try using a different charger (if you have access to one that matches the specifications for your HP Pavilion) to rule out a faulty charging adapter.
  3. If your laptop has a removable battery, check if it’s properly seated in its compartment.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
