Hi guys,
I'm writing this to look for help regarding my Victus.
I've been noticing a continue GPU usage even when i'm doing normal tasks. This means a short battery life.
In particular i tried to disable it via the OMEN GH, but it only shows Hybrid or Discrete, which means that in both cases the GPU still runs. Same as for the BIOS settings.
The only thing i've found working is disabling the rtx4070 from device manager, but the battery seems to last the same. I'm afraid it still runs in the background, the only thing has changed is that it's not recognized anymore in the Task Manager. When trying an Omen in a shop, i've noticed the possibility to use only the iGPU via OGH, but mine doesn't let me do that.
Looking forward to help,
Thanks.

Hi @GINGRA,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the issue might be related to power management and GPU switching on your Victus by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop with an RTX 4070. Here's a breakdown of steps and solutions you can try to resolve the issue and improve battery life.
Update Drivers and Software
- GPU Drivers: Ensure both the NVIDIA and Intel integrated GPU drivers are up-to-date.
- Use the NVIDIA GeForce Experience to update the RTX 4070 drivers.
- Download the latest Intel iGPU drivers from Intel’s support site.
- OMEN Gaming Hub (OGH): Ensure OGH is updated to the latest version.
- Open the Microsoft Store, search for "OMEN Gaming Hub," and update it.
Enable Hybrid Graphics Properly
- The Hybrid Graphics mode should switch between the discrete GPU and the integrated GPU depending on the workload.
- If the discrete GPU continues to run, try these steps:
- Open OMEN Gaming Hub, navigate to Graphics Switcher, and set it to "Hybrid."
- Restart the laptop to ensure the setting takes effect.
- If the Hybrid option is unavailable or ineffective, check for BIOS updates (see Step 4).
NVIDIA Control Panel Settings
- Right-click on the desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Navigate to Manage 3D Settings → Global Settings, and set the Preferred graphics processor to Integrated graphics.
- Under the Program Settings tab, ensure apps that don’t require high performance (e.g., browsers, Microsoft Office) are set to use Integrated graphics.
Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates and Settings
- Update the BIOS firmware to the latest version available for your Victus laptop.
- Visit HP Support and enter your laptop's serial number or model to find BIOS updates.
- In the BIOS:
- Check for options like Switchable Graphics or Dynamic GPU Switching and ensure they're enabled.
- Ensure the discrete GPU isn't set to be always active.

Windows Power Settings
- Open Control Panel → Power Options → Choose or Customize a Power Plan.
- Select a power-saving plan or edit the current one to ensure the Switchable Dynamic Graphics is set to maximize battery life.
- Under Processor Power Management, reduce the Maximum Processor State to 99% to prevent the discrete GPU from kicking in unnecessarily.
Monitor GPU Usage
- Open Task Manager → Performance tab and check which GPU is in use for background processes.
- For a more detailed look, use tools like GPU-Z or NVIDIA’s System Monitor.
Factory Reset OGH Settings
- If the Graphics Switcher in OMEN Gaming Hub isn’t working properly, reset the app:
- Open Settings in OGH and find the reset or factory restore option.
- Reinstall OMEN Gaming Hub if resetting doesn’t fix the issue.
Advanced Troubleshooting
- Use MSConfig to disable startup apps that might trigger the discrete GPU unnecessarily.
- Type msconfig in Windows search, go to the Startup tab, and disable unnecessary apps.
- Temporarily disable background services or apps that may be forcing GPU usage.
- Check NVIDIA processes like NvContainer or third-party apps like Discord or Chrome.
Consider Reinstalling Windows
If all else fails, a clean installation of Windows may fix software or driver-related conflicts causing GPU overuse.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
