OMEN Laptop - 15-en0013dx

After starting the game, the computer automatically turns on the “Performance” mode and because of this the computer starts to make a lot of noise, although always stood on the “Default” mode and until today there was no such problem.

Hi @Dennych,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it can be when your laptop starts making excessive noise during gaming, especially when it didn’t do so before. Let’s try to figure out why it’s happening and how to resolve it.

  • Have you recently updated your laptop’s drivers or software, particularly related to the GPU or power settings?
  • Does the laptop always switch to "Performance" mode when you launch a game, or is it just happening with specific titles?
  • Have you noticed any unusual behavior, like increased temperature or performance issues, alongside the noise?

1. Check Power Settings

  • Open HP Omen Command Center (if installed), and go to the Performance tab.
  • Verify if there is an option to manually switch between Default, Balanced, or Performance modes.
  • If it automatically switches to Performance, try setting it back to Default or Balanced and see if the issue persists.

2. Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Go to the HP Support website and check for any BIOS or driver updates, particularly for power management and GPU drivers.
  • Updating these may help resolve any conflicts that cause the laptop to switch to Performance mode unexpectedly.

3. Check Thermal Settings

  • Ensure that the fan and cooling system are clean and not clogged with dust, as this can lead to unnecessary noise if the system is overheating.
  • If you use any third-party performance software or apps, make sure they are not automatically changing your power or thermal settings.

4. Adjust Windows Power Settings

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Make sure your power plan is set to Balanced or Power Saver, not High Performance unless required for gaming.
  • You can customize the settings in the advanced power options to limit processor performance when not gaming.

5. Monitor Temperatures and Fan Speed

  • Use software like HWMonitor or Core Temp to track the CPU and GPU temperatures.
  • If the temperatures are too high, it could explain the switch to Performance mode as the system tries to cool down. In that case, ensure the cooling system is working properly, and consider a laptop cooling pad.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
