Hi , I have a HP G56 laptop running Win7 64v bit , the problem is the battery , it will charge up to 100% no problem , but when using battery power it will switch off when the battery power icon is showing approx 50% ( after about 40 mins. of use ) and won't switch on again until the power chord is plugged in , I ran a check with HP support assistant which reports that the battery is OK. If the battery is ok then why does it switch off at 50% ?
any help much appreciated ,
Stu

Hi StuM,
It sounds like your battery needs to be calibrated. Here is a document that describes two methods of doing a calibration on the battery. If those don't work, you might try a third method by following a similar procedure, but booting to the BIOS (F10) or system Recovery (F11), once there you don't need to do anything just let the notebook sit, discharging the battery, until it turns off again, then plug the AC adapter back in and boot normally, letting the battery charge all the way back to 100%, and you should be back to normal.
It's probably not a bad idea to run a battery test as described in this document as well.
