Hi @Aishwary_Werth

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with two separate issues: a noisy fan and a battery error (Battery 601). Let's go through both problems one by one and offer potential solutions.

1. Noisy Fan (Grinding Noise)

A noisy or grinding fan could be caused by dust buildup, a malfunctioning fan, or loose parts inside the laptop. Here’s how to address it:

A. Clean the Fan

Sometimes, dust or debris inside the fan can cause it to make grinding or whirring noises.

  1. Turn off the laptop and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Use compressed air to blow out dust from the fan vents. Hold the laptop upside down or at an angle to allow the dust to escape.
  3. Gently clean the fan blades with a cotton swab or a soft brush if you're comfortable opening the laptop. Make sure to be careful and avoid damaging any components.
  4. If the fan is clogged with dust or the laptop has been used for a long time without cleaning, this step should help reduce the noise.

B. Check for Loose or Damaged Fan

If cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue and the grinding persists, the fan might be damaged or have loose components. In this case, you may need to:

  1. Power off the laptop, remove the battery (if removable), and open the back panel to access the fan (if you're comfortable with disassembling the laptop).
  2. Inspect the fan for any visible damage, like broken blades or loose screws. Tighten any loose screws.
  3. If the fan appears damaged or still makes noise after cleaning, replace the fan. You can find replacement fans for your specific laptop model online or from authorized service centers.

C. Update or Reinstall Drivers

Occasionally, fan noise might be caused by incorrect fan control settings. To check for any driver-related issues:

  1. Go to Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Processors section and right-click your CPU driver to update it.
  3. Also, check for driver updates for your chipset or cooling-related components (if available).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
