OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wf0000 ICTO Base Units
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have the Omen 16.1 Gaming Laptop 16-wf0000 ICTO Base Units.

Here is the cronology of events that led to the issue.

1. Playing Battlefield 2042 with two external monitors connected, one with HP USB Hub and another directly to the laptop and the laptop lid is closed, suddenly there was a swtiching between the monitors and unable to open the game. I try to open the game, it switches monitors and bascially I was unable to play the game.

2. Day 2: Switched on the Laptop, completed my work, switched on the Battlefield 2042. This time no external monitors were connected. Once the game opened, same issue the monitor went dark and nothing visible, but since the laptop lid was open I was able to notice overheating near the speaker grill. Disconnected all devices and performed the hardware reset (by holding the power button for 20 sec) and then trying to connect the adapter and switching the laptop ON.

3. The LED on the power the the Mute button (white and orange respectively) kept blinking On/ Off approximately 1-2 second interval, this was not completely periodic.

4. Day 5: Did not try opening the laptop for next two days and tried to switch ON the laptop again after the hardware reset. Similar light blinking on the Power Button LED, no response / sound of fan initiation or anything from the laptop.

I understand this mostly is a hardware issue, I am planning to carry to a HP support Center near me at my earliest convinence. I would like to know if anyone else have faced similar issues and also what could be the most likely culprit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi @PravinKumar6,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry to hear about the frustrating experience with your OMEN 16.1 Gaming Laptop, especially when you were just trying to enjoy Battlefield 2042. It’s concerning to face issues like overheating and unresponsiveness, and I appreciate you reaching out for assistance.

  • Have you noticed any unusual behavior with the laptop before this issue, such as fan noise, unexpected shutdowns, or display flickering?
  • When the power button and mute button LEDs blink, does the laptop emit any beep codes or show any signs of attempting to start, such as fan noise or keyboard backlighting?

Check for Signs of Power and Cooling Issues:

  • Place the laptop on a flat, hard surface to ensure proper ventilation.
  • Connect the power adapter directly to a wall outlet (not through a power strip or hub).
  • Check if the charging LED turns on and remains steady.

Perform a Full Power Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices, including monitors, USB hubs, and peripherals.
  • Unplug the power adapter, then hold down the power button for 30-60 seconds to drain residual charge.
  • Reconnect the power adapter and try turning the laptop back on.

Inspect External Components:

  • Disconnect and reconnect any easily accessible components, such as the RAM or SSD, if you’re comfortable doing so.
  • If any hardware was recently upgraded or replaced, ensure it is properly seated and compatible.

Test the Adapter and Battery:

  • Verify the power adapter is functioning properly by testing it on another compatible HP laptop, if available.
  • If the laptop battery is removable, try booting the laptop with the adapter alone (without the battery installed).

Run a Pre-Boot Diagnostic (if accessible):

  • If the laptop shows signs of life, press F2 repeatedly during startup to enter the HP Diagnostics tool.
  • Run a full system test to identify any hardware issues.

If the laptop remains unresponsive after these steps, it’s likely a hardware issue involving the motherboard, GPU, or power delivery system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I have noticed the display flickering issue once before the final failure. It happened a few days prior and then stopped working later.
