Add another one to the long list of Hp dv6700 that will not start. Mine leds light for a second then shuts down and beeps once. the number and caps light do not come on. Just another peice of equipment built to fail so they can sell new ones.

And another one bites the dust.  Mine gave out about a month ago.  I understand these are not made to last forever but I only had it for 3 years and I rarely use the thing.  Took it to 2 computer shops and both said it's the motherboard.  The one guy was very familiar with the problem saying it was a GPU separation problem due to the construction of it.  He recommended calling HP to see what they could do.  I'm sure you all know where that got me.  Of course this model isn't on their recall list.  Surprise surprise.  The rep said HP can repair it for roughly $400 or she can assist me with a purchase of a new one.  I told her she was crazy.  I can buy a new one cheaper and trust me it will not be HP.  HP fully knows about this defect but prefers to play ignorant because they just don't care.  I told the rep there's this little thing called Facebook where I can share my bad HP experience.

Mine has had the same problem. Ive called HP and they have even acknowledged the motherboard being the issue and when i told them that this is not just a one time deal, that thousands of other hp customers with the same model are having the same problem, i get the answer of; "Well Mr Davis, your laptop is not covered but we can sell you a new one"  I am going to call their corporate office after the hollidays and see if i can get anywhere with them, If not i will file complaints with the BBB and i suggest anyone else having the same issue to do so as well. Maybe with enough people complaining, they may have to do the recall.

By the way, I hope that HP corp look at this page, because anyone i know who is looking to buy a computer or computer product, i will tell them to buy other than HP, I will never buy ANY HP products ever again if they do not take responsibility for this problem.

I've read a few other threads on this topic... seems some were able to solve their problems.  My client's pc worked after a flash of the original bios, but wanting to play it safe, I rebooted the pc a few times, from hibernate, reset to strait up shut down. Worked great until that last shut down... and all I could get now and again was the Post screen (which then froze).  Other times no post, and other times it'd flash lights and spin the fan for a few seconds then cutoff. Great looking PC too, still looked just as shiny and beautiful as the day it came out of the box. Thankfully though, you can pull the adapter off the end of the HDD and connect it to a different PC via standard SATA cables.  I was able to xfer her data to a Brand new Inspiron.  HP handed that sale to Dell. A real shame to see that thing scrapped.  Oh well.

Hello I was given my HP pavillion DV6700 by My Son in law and Daughter. They were tired of dealing with the shut downs and having to remove all power to get it back up. They had purchased it on the Airforce Base about a year before that. They thought the warranty was over and did not want to deal with it. I used it over the next 1-1/2 years by only starting it when I needed to get on for something. It finally crashed and that is when we learned about all the same problems with this series. I called HP and they said it was not on the list of computers that were covered by the class action suit against them and Nvidia so I am stuck with it. I ordered another laptop from Tiger Direct and It was a HP Probook 4730 I think>>with many of the latest features. When it got here I started it up filled out all the information and finally got to try it. I downloaded Avast Virus protection and when it restarted it went to blue screen. I finally called HP and they said I would have to restore it to factory specs so I mashed f11 while it started and did that. After 2 hours of doing work with it I was finally able to check it again and when I tried skype it had no sound at either end. Then it started flickering screen so I shut it off and called for a return number and label. Hp makes some of the worst computers we have tried. Have had several desktops and had probemlems with all of them. My openion is never Buy a HP product again.

Let me get this straight. I am a PC repair tech. I have a dv6700 that is unable to

load the BIOS properly.

You are an HP Expert. You are referring your clients to a 3rd party repair facility

listed on eBay.

I know that the Leo Apotheker phase was difficult for what used to be known as

Hewlett Packard. A few of us used HP gear in the '60's, tube scopes and sig gens.

All excellent gear, backed by a company known for it's commitment to quality.

Please explain why purchasers should be penalized for what appears to be a

systemic hardware design fault caused not by those who trusted hp (new name,

evidently new game) but by those who knew the product line was headed for the

trash bin?

I am recovering my client's data so he can load it back onto a reliable laptop.

I welcome your reply.
