Hi there!
The original SSD in this device (11th Gen Intel processor) failed and obviously we want to replace the SSD. When we do the boot manager does not recognize the disk. We load the Intel RST driver and we see that the disk is recognized as Disk 2. Windows will not install ( Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation is the error message).
We are trying to see if anyone else has seen this and found a work around. We think that the installation process is getting confused because of this issue with the drive being Disk 2
Points to note
1. BIOS does not allow us to change disk type to AHCI
2. We have tried all combinations of UEFI and legacy with no success
3. We have changed installer drivers ( Iodd, multiple USB drives). All formatted at GPT, no success
4. We have tried multiple target disks , all with the same outcome.
I am currently thinking that maybe inject the RST driver into the boot.wim of the installer might fix the issue and wondering if anyone might have tried such a thing?
TIA for any help! If I had hair I would be tearing it out right now

See this thread below where this person installed a new 1 TB M.2 NVMe in a notebook that belongs to the same model series (Pavilion 14-dv0xxx) as yours and successfully installed Windows by supplying Intel RST storage drivers to the Windows installer during the installation process.
Not sure why the new drive is detected as disk 2. Is your new drive by any chance an Intel M.2 NVMe with embedded Optane memory? What is the make and the model number of the drive?
Can you post the screenshot of the displayed disk with the error message that says Window cannot be installed?
How did you create a Windows installation usb drive? Did you use Microsoft media creation tool, or did you use a utility to make a Windows ISO file bootable?
