Has anyone had any luck replacing the battery in a Spectrum x2 Detachable?
I have tried 3 different batteries and all of them will not be recognized by the computer. I put the old one back in and it work ok for about 45 minutes, then it dies due to its age.
I don't know if the original battery has a proprietary chipset in it.
If you have had any luck, where did you buy the battery from?

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Assuming you got an HP Spectre x2 Detachable Laptop - 12-c052nr (Z8T48UA) -please verify, this laptop (HP Spectre X2 12-C000 2017 Series) requires this battery with p/n: 902500-855 "Assembly-battery 4C 41Whr 2.7Ah LI AH04XL".
You can buy a quality AH04XL replacement battery online, such as this quality Amazon purchase option: https://www.amazon.com/HWW-Replacement-HSTNN-DB7S-902500-855-902402-2C2/dp/B07X82W6F1/ref=sr_1_1?cri....
This battery should work just fine, but if it doesn't, return to Amazon to get your hard-earned money back, and report back.

The battery is a ML03XL. HP#813999-1C1
I purchased at least 2 from Amazon for about $40.00 and 1 from Laptop Battery Express for about $140.00 that were identical. None of them could be recognized. Went through all the recommendations to calibrate the batteries and nothing worked. Wouldn't charge and Wouldn't power the computer. Sent them all back.
AC adapter works properly.

my bad: but that's why I prefaced my response with, quote: "Assuming you got an HP Spectre x2 Detachable Laptop . . . please verify".
Based on my experience, your case is an outlier. Meaning, most HP laptops happily accept new non-HP batteries without any issues whatsoever. I couldn't locate p/n: 813999-1C1 and instead found p/n: 814060-850 "GNRC-BATT 3C 42WH 3.69Ah LI ML03XL", but regardless, HP no longer stocks or sells this battery.
In my opinion, when no replacement batteries have been recognized but your laptop works fine on AC power, your issue might be with the battery power circuit on your laptop's motherboard.
And if that is the case, consider having the laptop inspected by a local laptop repair shop for hardware issues.
