SSD in addition to factory SATA on a Pav 17-bs049dx

I'm reasonably competent on desktop mods, but by no means a wiz when it comes to laptops. That said... -laugh-

Two & a half questions:

1.   Is it possible to add a SSD (128 or 256 GB) to a 17-bs049dx in addition to the factory 1TB SATA, using the SSD as the primary boot drive?

2.   Or would it require either still just a single drive only/replacement of the mobo?

2.5 Is it a even $-feasible option vis-a-vis expense of a new SSD machine?

FYI if needed, RAM is maxed out at 32GB.

Not a stupid question at all, with the number of variations in setup it is difficult to keep track of. The Maintenance and service guide is usually a good source of information: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-17-bs000-laptop-pc/15551424/model/18686342/manuals

In this case it appears that there is only one harddrive connection and either a SSD drive is directly connected or a cabling assembly allows connection of a standard size drive. That said, I see that this unit does have an optical drive and if you are willing to scarifice it (ie you don't use it) you can usually find caddy that allow installation of a hard drive in place of the optical drive. That is what i have in my HP Zbook.

Thanks heaps!  From my perusal of the service guide & a couple of memory sites on the web that was what I was afraid of, knowing that only certain generations of i# cores allowed dual install.  I may end up going with one of the kits for upgrade.  I hate losing the existing HDD but if I go with a 1TB kit the bennies of the whole may outweigh relatively marginal loss for me.  GREATLY appreciated!
