Hi @gic9922,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with the HP Spectre x360 14 is known for its strong battery performance, so getting only 4 hours of battery life with low brightness and light usage like browsing on Edge seems unusually low. Here’s what you can check or try before deciding to return the device:
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
1. Battery Performance in Different Modes
- Ensure that your laptop is set to Battery Saver mode both in HP Command Center and Windows Settings.
- Check for any background apps that might be draining the battery unnecessarily. You can do this by going to:
- Windows Settings > System > Power & Battery > Battery Usage by App.
2. Driver and BIOS Updates
- Make sure your laptop's BIOS, drivers, and firmware are up to date. You can use the HP Support Assistant to check for and install updates.
3. HP Power Mode Settings
- In the HP Command Center, ensure that you are in the Recommended Mode or Comfort Mode, which optimizes for battery life.
4. Battery Health Check
- Perform a battery health check using the HP Diagnostic Tools:
- Press Esc on startup to access the BIOS menu, then select System Diagnostics > Battery Test.
- Alternatively, you can run powercfg /batteryreport in Command Prompt to generate a detailed battery report. Check the report for the Full Charge Capacity compared to the Design Capacity.
5. Edge and Browser Usage
- Ensure that you’re using the latest version of Microsoft Edge and not running unnecessary extensions or tabs in the background. Certain browser features, such as hardware acceleration, can increase power consumption.
6. Battery Calibration
- Calibrate the battery by fully charging it to 100%, discharging it completely to 0%, and then charging it back to 100%. This can help the system measure the battery life more accurately.
Refer to this document: HP Notebook PCs - The battery does not power the notebook or hold a charge
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Those fixes didn't work, I made request to return the device but nobody is taking care of it. They sent me the labels to print with a collection date but obviously the courier didn't come to collect the package.
My experience with hp has been a total disaster.
