HP 255 G7 Notebook PC

Hi friends,

I have the same HP G7 255 AMD A A4-9125 as Clienteanziano, with the same 4 GB ram module

photo_2024-12-06_20-33-36.jpg

and I have installed a "Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 2400MHz CL17 CT8G4SFS824A" memory  module:

Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 2400MHz

It works fine, but at a lower speed than the one I had at 2666 MHz.

My question is the following: If I install a "Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) CT8G4SFRA32A" module, will it be compatible and will it run at a higher speed of 2933MHz or 2666MHz  memory module?

Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 3200MHz

Kind regards.

Hi:

I doubt that installing a DDR4-3200 MHz memory chip will make any difference because the maximum speed the A4-9125 processor can run the memory at is only 1866 MHz.

So, any memory chip is going to automatically bridge to 1866 MHz.

Thank you very much for your quick response and kindness.

I hadn't been very clear about the issue, but now it's crystal clear.

P.S. When I opened my laptop I saw that, since some models have a DVD drive, I think there is an M.2 type connector available.

Do you think it would work to connect another 2280 SSD?

If possible, I have looked for these used models as the best quality/price option:

Intenso 250 GB M.2 SSD PCIe Premium: 21€ new

Crucial P2 CT250P2SSD8: 29€ used good

WD Green SN350 500 GB34€ used like new

WD Blue SN580 250GB: 36€ used like new

Integral INSSD512GM280 512GB: 37€ new

WD_BLACK SN770 250 GB: 38€ used like new

Crucial P3 500GB: 41€ like new

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, NVMe SSD's are not supported in the notebooks with the AMD 'A' series processors such as the A4-9125.

The slot that you see for the DVD drive would not support a SATA M.2 SSD.

My HP 255 G7 with the same processor as yours came with a 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD.

If your notebook does not have a M.2 SSD slot like mine, the best option for you would be to replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD.

A 2.5" SATA SSD will perform equally as well as a M.2 SATA SSD.

Here is a HP YouTube service video for the 255 G7:

Removing & replacing parts for HP 255 G7 Notebook PC | HP Computer Service - YouTube

If your notebook has the M2 slot as shown in the video, then this would be an example of the M.2 SATA SSD that would work:

WD Blue SA510 500GB M.2 SATA Unidad de estado sólido SSD con hasta 560MB/s de velocidad de lectura :...

If the notebook has a M.2 slot, you can see where the M.2 SATA SSD goes starting at minute 2:58 into the video.

Hi,

It does come with a SAMSUNG MZNLN128HAHQ-000H1 with 128.0 GB.

It's a bit short for me and, together with the installation of the RAM, I have solved the lack of space in a precarious way with an SD card:

SanDisk 128GB Extreme (I can play Warcraft III on it)

It's not the Angelbird PRO UHS-II 128 GB V60, but it cost me €12 instead of €72, and has a decent performance.

Which of the hard drives would you choose to clone the system to install it?

What can I install on the DVD connection?

Thanks.

The WD Blue 500 GB M.2 SATA SSD I posted is only 39.63.

I don't believe that you can install anything in the slot where the DVD drive goes and if that is somehow possible, I wouldn't know, so I recommend you start a new post on that.

I don't see any DVD connector to M.2 SATA drive connector.

Also note that most of those DVD connectors aren't SATA III since DVD drives only run at 1.5 GB/S (SATA I).

I don't understand your question regarding which of the hard drives would you choose to clone the system to install.

You can't boot from a SD card.

To clone my Samsung M.2 to another SSD from the ones I listed and change it with the operating system, since I can't put another SSD.

It's not so important as to start a new topic, I thought that with a suitable interface I could connect a sata ssd or a flux capacitor. 😅

😄

If there was a way mount a standard 2.5" drive in there you could connect a DVD caddy but those would have gone in place of a DVD drive and my notebook does not have an optical drive so the bottom cover is different than the ones that come with a DVD drive.

As you can see, one of those are too big.  If only they had one with a smaller footprint that could fit entirely inside the case.

I would just pay the 40 Euros and get a nice WS Blue SA510 500 GB M.2 SATA SSD.

I have a 250 GB WD Blue M.2 SATA SSD in one of my HP desktop PC's.

I've already looked into the DVD supports, that's why I mentioned the connection interface and connecting it to a 2.5 SSD bay, for example, by doing some work...

Anyway, good night, it's almost three in the morning here... Regards.
