Hello. I have recently tried to make this PC more usable. I have installed an SSD onto this laptop, and just now installed an 8GB sodimm ram stick, but I think the speed of the ram is too fast for this notebook as it's now just showing the 3 slow 2 fast LED blinks. Would there be any possible way to reduce the timings on this stick of ram to 1333Mhz, or am I stuck with RMA and reordering another stick of ram?
*edit* - Original stick is also 1600Mhz, and CL11 1.35v. *edit*
I was hoping the laptop would just run it's default JDEC settings, but it doesn't look to be.
The ram stick is Timetec 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz, CL11, 1.35v/1.5v Dual Rank ram.
I see the original stick is single ranked, and this one is dual ranked, could this be the issue?
Thanks for helping, ~Harley.

I don't know Timetec 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM but the following vendor says its RAM should work
Regards.

Then I think my course will be to get a replacement stick to verify if it's just a dead stick, and will also order a single rank stick, and see what happens.
I will post an update on this later when I receive the replacements.
Thank you for the fast reply and finding some sources, appreciated!

Hi, @Surms41
I've used this 8 GB DDR3L-1600 memory chip in my HP notebooks and never had a problem:
Crucial RAM 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz CL11 Laptop Memory CT102464BF160B at Amazon.com
I tend to agree that the memory chip you have may be defective.

So I have embarrassing news. This is the first time upgrading a laptop, with dozens of desktops under my belt. The ram was only inserted a little bit, but was still able to click into place. I got the second stick, still didn't work, then I installed the original stick, and the ram stick clicked in way easier than previously. So I went back to the previous "bad" stick and did the exact same angle of insertion and it clicks in very easily and booted right up 🙃 so both ranked sticks worked and I installed them incorrectly, with part of the gold pins still showing.
Should I use the dual rank sticks or single rank? I doubt there will be much difference, but still I'll ask. Lol
Thanks everyone by the way. My bad!
