Victus by HP Laptop 16-d1009ni

Victus by HP Laptop 16-d1009ni is my laptop model. Does this particular model have a second m.2 slot and is it gen 4 because I know the primary is gen 4 ?

I can't be 100% sure that it is Gen 3, but it is very likely because of what the processor indicates, but just try, use the current Gen 4 disk put it in the second slot and see if it slows down.

However, if you wish you can buy a Gen 4 disk, what may happen is that the speed may be lowered, but it is still compatible.

Hi @Iron_Baron

In my humble opinion the second M.,2 slot is Gen 3, this is due to the Chipset/PCH, this controls the RAID, which is compatible in the laptop and according to intel it is Gen 3.

Thank you for the information that is really helpful. I did have one more query. Say for example both slots are gen 4. I am assuming the first slot is the c drive used for windows.

1) If I were to move the existing drive to the 2nd slot and install a new ssd in the first slot can I put windows on the new drive ?

2) would all my files and applications stay on the drive I moved to the 2nd slot and act as a backup storage ?

No, if you put a new drive and put windows there there is no problem but if you leave the second drive with windows installed, you must always when you turn on the device press the F9 key several times, the boot menu appears and there select the disk you want to boot with windows.

usually what do you do, well you leave the disk with windows in the first slot and in the second slot if it is used you leave the disk as secondary storage and configure windows so that all future applications are installed on that disk.

I guess the scenario I am actually thinking about is if the 2nd slot is a gen 3 slot and I want to have my OS on the faster newer drive and move my existing ssd to the gen 3 slot and install the new ssd in the primary slot. Is there no way to convert the existing ssd to just a storage drive and install windows on the new one whilst keeping all my applications and files on the old one. Sorry if this sounds confusing lol

First of all, maybe the current disk you have is Gen 4 (surely), then you should not make any changes, you can buy another Gen 4 disk and put it in the second slot if this slot is really Gen 3 only the speed is lowered.

Now if you want to put the new disk in the first slot you can do it, install windows etc and programs, then the second disk must be formatted because otherwise you will see conflict if you have two operating systems,
