Hi @seinmaganda,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "ghost typing" problem you're experiencing on your HP laptop can be caused by either hardware or software issues. Since you've already tried standard solutions like updating drivers and disconnecting the internal wire, let's look at a few other possibilities.
Check for External Keyboard or Accessories
- Ensure no external device is interfering. If you use an external keyboard, USB devices, or wireless dongles, disconnect them and see if the problem persists.
- Sometimes, faulty accessories can cause phantom inputs.
Investigate the Touchpad
- Disable the touchpad temporarily. If the touchpad is glitching, it might be causing random inputs. To test:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and disable it.
- Use an external mouse instead to see if the problem stops.
Inspect the Keyboard Hardware
Keyboard may have hardware issues: Since you mentioned disconnecting and reconnecting the wire inside seemed to temporarily fix it, there might be:
- A loose connection.
- A defective keyboard ribbon cable.
- A short circuit in the keyboard hardware.
Next Step: Test with an external keyboard.
- Connect an external USB or Bluetooth keyboard. If the issue doesn't occur with the external keyboard, the built-in keyboard likely needs replacement.
Malware or Software Conflict
- Malware or software conflicts can sometimes cause random inputs. To check:
- Run a full antivirus scan using tools like Windows Defender or a third-party antivirus program.
- Boot into Safe Mode and test the system:
- Restart your laptop, press F8 or Shift + Restart (depending on your model) to enter Safe Mode.
- If the issue doesn’t occur in Safe Mode, it may be a software conflict.

BIOS or Firmware Update
- Sometimes, a BIOS or firmware issue can cause keyboard problems. Since your laptop is new, make sure the BIOS is updated:
- Open the HP Support Assistant or visit the HP support website and check for any BIOS updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
