hi, i am new to the hp support community, i just bought a sata connector and a sata ssd for my hp 250 g7

ssd: western digital 240 gb ssd

and there's the problem: the connector won't fit, why? i bought the small one and connected it to the kbl connector when the hdd/ssd connector is big and i turn on my laptop and went to the disk management to make it detect the ssd connected

is there any solution to that?

thank you

Hello.

Take a look at the Maintenance and Service Guide for HP 250 G7, pages 21-22.

To clarify, can you tell us the HP part numbers you have ordered?

The 2.5" drive slot can use both 2,5" SSD/HDD or a M.2 drive with a special bracket and connector board + cable.

You can always take a picture (or several) and attach to your next reply. Much easier than trying to describe the incompatible connectors. 🙂

Hi,

The picture is of pretty low quality, I really can't make head or tail of it, but it does not look like the proper part.

Can you give the web page at Amazon where you bought it, or the HP Product Number? Small parts like this cable usually don't have the P/N sticker, but if it came in an original HP cardboard box then it has the P/N on top.

What you need - based on the Service Guide I referred to in my earlier message - are these parts:

L20455-001 - "Hard drive bracket" - this drive caddy is used to secure the 2.5" SSD inside the laptop.

L20454-001 - "Hard drive connector board" - a small component board with the SATA connector and connects to the system board with the L20456-001 cable. Included in the picture below:

L20456-001 - "Hard drive/solid-state drive cable" - needed in case the L20454-001 part didn't come with the cable.

The maintenance guide also mentions "Solid-state drive bracket" and "Solid-state connector board" but the name is misleading even though you are adding an SSD drive - these are only to be used with an M.2 form factor SSD drive which is very different from a 2.5" SSD drive.
