HP EliteBook x360 1030 G4 Notebook PC

I bought an HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen for my laptop HP EliteBook x360 1030 G4 Notebook PC, and the pen didn't work, so I downloaded the app HP Pen Control, and the app didn't work too. it said "Sorry, HP Pen Control is not compatible with this computer"!! I need a solution ASAP, I need to use the pen now. Before I bought it I made sure it was compatible with my laptop.

Welcome to the HP Community --

According to the Maintenance and Service Guide , this is the pen compatible with your computer:

Pen (with app launch button)    L16131-001

HP Rechargeable Active Pen Specifications

I am not aware that the HP Pen Control App supports the pen marked as compatible for your computer.

What you say might be true but I cannot find a way to confirm.

Thank you very much for your reply.

So, you are saying that HP Rechargeable Active Pen, is the only compatible pen with my device, meaning that the pen I bought will not work??

HP Recommended

+ where did find that the pen you mentioned is compatible with my laptop? I couldn't find information regarding compatibility any where for my device.

@Hiba7

You are welcome.

You said you checked that the pen you bought is compatible.

"Before I bought it I made sure it was compatible with my laptop."

I am saying that

Based on the information I have found, I cannot verify that what you found (or were told) is true.

Pen Information included in the manual:

 Maintenance and Service Guide

Page 21

Based on the information in the service guide, there is one pen listed as supported.

My interpretation:

The pen you purchased is not compatible with your computer

and

The HP Pen Control application is not compatible with pen  L16131-001) and is not therefore useful or needed with the pen:  HP Rechargeable Active Pen Specifications

Yes, I said I made sure, but from other websites and a lot of browsing, it's so difficult to find information on this website.

Thank you for your clarification finally I got a clear answer, but it's too late after I got the wrong pen, unfortunately.

So I have one last question, the HP Rechargeable Active Pen system requirements according to this page you posted in your previous comment are:

Windows 8
Windows 8.1
Windows 10
and I have Windows 11, so even if I buy this pen is it going to work with Windows 11, and if it didn't, aren't there any other types of pen that will work with my device and OS, other than HP pens?

@Hiba7

Based on the listed driver support,  I guess yes.

Software and Drivers

Select / Change OS to Windows 11

Submit and then open list...

Wacom AES Digitizer Driver

HP documentation runs from "golden and all good" to "Yeah, not so much".

I hope for the best when I risk trying to help someone with anything that outside of my areas of expertise and requires a bit of faith in the process

"Other pens"

I don't know that one either -- "Wacom AES" is a pretty common pen protocol -- you could try a different Wacom pen.

True - trying different pens might be painful depending on your location, the merchants, and their return policies...

Microsoft Store > HP Pen Control Application is not compatible, as the app states, when started. On the Envy X360 (listed as compatible) there is the "HP Pen Control PLUS Application" preinstalled. I uninstalled it incidently, but can not reinstall it, as the "HP Pen Control PLUS Application" is neither in the Microsoft Store nor on the Software and Drivers Section on the HP Hompage.
The HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen works with Envy X360 and Spectre X360 as I tested, but buttons cannot be configured, if HP Pen Control PLUS Application was incidently uninstalled, because you cannot reinstall it

For those reading - Thread of the same subject:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/quot-HP-Pen-Control-PLUS-Application-...

"There always is a complete HP recovery on the harddisk, but I do not want to spoil several days to reinstall and reconfigure all programs, just for a small app."

True - days "Spoiled" might not be worth the work to Recover.

The app is mentioned in a different system's Maintenance and Service Guide -- as you've found, there is no obvious way to easily reload the app if it is removed from the File System.

I will forward a request -- should there be a response at some point --perhaps a solution other than Recovery, an HP Pen Control Plus app might become available.

No one likes to be told No.

@Dragon-Fur Yes, the thread you mentioned, I opened after replying to this one.
I was quite frustrated, as the first and second support level didn't even know, that the "plus" version exsists.

The total application is still fully existent in the file system under
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\AD2F1837.HPPenControlPlus_1.1.7.0_x64__v10z8vjag6ke6.

The uninstall click just simply removed it from the list of installed apps and deleted several of the registry entries.
I checked it, as in old times you could cheat and revive progs with small changes in the registry, but today they write essays into the registry for such a small app. 🫨

It would be really great, if you succeed in initiating HP to make the HP Pen Control Plus app become available.

thx for your efforts👍
