Hi
Turned on my laptop after the Christmas break it went on fine, i just got into outlook then the screen flashed black, I turned it off to start again and it just kept going blank, ran a diagnostic test and it came back with optimized DST failed.
What does this mean and what can I do to fix it?
Many thanks

Hi,
It means the Hard Drive is failing. Back up all your files etc as soon as you can and then replace the Hard Drive.
Best wishes,
DP-K

I am having a similar issue on my HP Mini Netbook, but instead of failing it says software error. I was wondering if it was a hard drive issue or just some software problem as my diagnostic start up test seems to be saying.

i have a problem with mine also shows a software error when i did a scan. it said, "optimized DST: Software Error" does it mean that the hard drive is failing? by the way its a HP Pavilion dv6 notebook PC w/ Windows 7 home premium.

Hi
I really need urgent help here
I ran the 'Run-in' test and it stated optimized DST: software error
so that also means the harddisk is falling too ???
I newly installed window 7 ultimate on a new SSD drive.
I cant get into window every time ( 5/10 maybe)
some BSOD popped out and quickly went always then followed by asking for restoration.
If i choose run window normally some times it goes right away to window
sometimes just recurs the same problem.
I ran hard disk test and its all passed
but ""software error"" in the optimized dst run-in test
what should I do !!???
Cheers,
Joe

Hi Joe,
I can't see the image you've uploaded yet until it's been approved by a Moderator. In the meantime, try the following.
Shutdown the notebook, unplug any external devices, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Follow the procedure starting on Page 58 on your Maintenance & Service Guide to disconnect the RTC battery.
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then leave the notebook for 20 minutes.
Reconnect the RTC battery, replace covers etc, insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Start the notebook and let me know if you still get the same error.
Regards,
DP-K
