Hi community. Today i had an unusual event with my laptop. I have a HP Envy TS 17-j023cl.
I wanted to install my Windows Recovery discs, so I went to the BIOS to activate the Legacy boot. Because this function was already activated, i didn't touch anything and I exited the menu.
The next thing that happens is that the computer don't pass the booting section. The keys don't work and the screen doesn't start. The leds that remain on, are the one from the wireless, the power on and the AC.
I tried to do a hard reset, taking everything out from it (RAM, HDD, Battery, MB Battery, AC, CD ROM) and then powering up but that didn't work.
The laptop is pretty new (around 2 months).
What do you think that could it be? How can I fix it?
The first 2 seconds of booting, the notebook seems to work properly (turns on the led of HDD, Caps and Mute). Could it be possible to flash the BIOS in this condition? My firmware is F.56.
I read that it could be unblock by pressing the power key + beats key, but i don't have the second one (although this machine comes with beats audio).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much!

Hello @piltrisur ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to boot after entering the BIOS, even though no changes were made.
If you want to try restoring the BIOS you can follow this document: Restoring the BIOS. This will restore the factory BIOS version and settings.
Also, the Caps Lock light blinking on boot before shutting down could indicate a hardware or BIOS failure of some sort. Check out this document to diagnose blinking LEDs on startup: Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps.
Let me know if that works for you!

Hey piltrisur,
You may be able to restore the BIOS by using the jumper if your notebook motherboard has one. Some motherboards have a small blue plastic jumper that you move to another set of pins to reset, but some require shorting out the BIOS. Every motherboard is different and I do not have specifications that precise to be able to guide you through it, plus I don't really recommend doing this yourself as shorting the wrong node can destroy the motherboard.
At this point, if you're unable to recover with the Windows Key + B method, I would suggest calling HP Phone Support for service or repair options. You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.
Sorry for the bad news. 😞
