Hi, I have a Pavillion G6 - 1261sa running on windows 7, 64-bit. I cannot switch on my wifi and change the orange light. ive searched solutions for this, and most seem to be solved by installing drivers for the wifi card. and most seem to be solved by going into Device Manager / network adapters... and so on. but as i get to this stage my laptops device manager does not recognise a wifi card as being there!??? PLEASE HELP!?? I can only connect using ethernet

Hi:
That is your problem...Your Atheros wireless card needs drivers, which I have provided at the link below.
After you install this driver, you should be good to go.

Shame on them for not checking everything out before selling the notebook.
Best Regards,
Paul

Hi:
Did you recently reinstall the operating system?
Did the card just quit working and disappear from the device manager?
If the card needs drivers, it will not be listed under the network adapters section.
It will be listed by itself in the device manager or under a section labeled Other Devices and it should be listed as a Network Controller with a little yellow ! mark.
Do, you see anything like that?
If so, please click on that device. Then click on the Details tab. In the Properties drop down list, select the second item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters you see. Those will identify the model network card you have and I can send you the link to the drivers.
If you see nothing like that, make sure you have not inadvertently switched the card off with the wireless button, switch or function key (depending on what your PC uses to turn the thing on or off).

Hi:
Yes you have a different model wireless card in your notebook, which is not uncommon.
Below is the link to the latest driver for your Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WLAN adapter:
Once again, I am surprised they let those machines out of their facility without checking to make sure all of the drivers are installed--especially the wireless card!
Best Regards,
Paul
