I have a HP Pavilion dv7, about 1.5 years old. My DVD player has recently started malfunctioning. Some DVD's play perfectly fine. Other DVDs (of various types - burned and original copies) take a long time to load and skip themselves to a freezing stop, or don't play at all. The DVDs that won't play have played just a few months ago perfectly fine, and they all work on other PCs and DVD players. I have tried cleaning the discs and the lens of the DVD player. The issues I am having are inconsistent so I'm not quite sure what to pin-point as the source, but I feel like it's a hardware issue.

What speed is the DVD player? The DVD player might have not been fast enough for some disks.

Hi, Can this be considered a Blu-Ray issue as well? Bc...I am having the same issue...Alot of issues playing movies of any kind. Another message board said that uninstalling and reinstalling drive might help..haven't tried it. I actually bought another software program thinking that it would resolve the freeze issues and all 3 did not work..I am simply disappointed. What should I do..I have increased the MB intake and put the exact version of player that I wanted to use..nothing..I am not computer savy and I have spent probably a good 500 hrs trying to resolve this issue. O and the software I downloaded was the Cyberlink Power DVD program. It worked great to start with but a complete failure..I don't blame them..I blame HP..I want them to resolve the issue with firmware and Windows upgrades. I do not want to have to start from scratch by reinstalling Windows...that was what someone on another forum suggested..I can't do that.

I am not sure of my DVD speed, and I'm not sure where to find that infomation (I searched in a tonne of places online and to no avail). I'm not sure this would matter in my case since all of the discs I am having issues with actually worked fine on this PC several months ago - unless my reading speed somehow was changed (is that even possible?)

Nope, I just have a DVD reader/writer, no Blu Ray. The reason I am most confused is because DVDs that have worked before no longer work, yet a very select few still work perfectly. The issue seems so inconsistent.

Ok it may not be a Blu-Ray issue but it could be something with your computer that is causing it to freeze or lock up..whatever..I can give you a little help with increasing the memory on your computer. But you are going to have to use  a tool like Ccleaner to get rid of unwanted files. Below is how to increase computer's memory..you can try it, if it doesn't work, then at least you have done something.

1. Control Panel

2. System

3. Advanced system Settings

4. At this point you are under the Advanced header.

5. Under Performance push Settings

6. Push Advanced heading on the next page

7. Because you want to change the amount of MB's at the middle of this page, press Change

8. If Automatically Manage page filing is checked, then  UNCHECK it. On the same page you will see Custom Size, push this button.

9. Then look at the bottom of the screen where it says Recommended and Currently Allocated. These are important numbers. The Recommended is the total amount of memory that they recommend to not exceed. The Currently Allocated is the amount that is actually being used now on your computer. Go back up to Custom Size..type in a number higher than the Currently Allocated number. For instance if your computer has 3736 MB in the Currently allocated, then you want that number to be higher, like 4250 MB..Put that number in the first box. In the second box you put the Recommended number which is what your computer's maximum number will be. That number is in the Recommended box at the bottom of the screen.

10. Push SET...THEN push SYSTEM MANAGED SIZE

11. Push Ok. You will go to the next page and you will see the 4250 or whatever number you chose, in the box in the middle of the screen.

12. Push Ok and  you are done..

Let me know if it works for your DVDs..Hope for you that it does..

Continuing with the DVD discussion. My Operating System is Windows 7 with 64 bit...SO ...It may depend on your computer's Operating system..

Ok I am pretty sure I just screwed this up.....FORGET about the post above..how to get more memory. I really think my issue is that since the last Windows  update, things went wrong..they are still not right. I can't play a DVD or a Blu-Ray at all on this computer..v7 Entertainment notebook 3065. I don't know what to do..I have tried everything to get my movies to work on here. I put in over 1000 hrs trying to get one particular movie to work. I put a regular blu-ray in and dang if it doesn't work either. I put in a DVD and nope..done...Is anyone really listening to us and our issues with these computers that are sent to America from a foreign country..then we have to deal with the issues that come up..It's time for America to make its own product..Just my opinion..I am a proud American and want my money to not be wasted over this crap.

actually, the memory thing allowed me to view a few more DVDs without a problem (but not all of them).

really, the more technology we have, the more things can break. it's no ones fault.

Try to increase the number that you put on the memory page..from above. If that worked then maybe a little more memory will work...it's just a thought and I am not a computer genious, trust me..I just have been doing this for awhile..trying to solve this issue for myself.
