F FAQ

Questions:

1. In ' Control Panel ' under ' Biometric Devices ' I don't see my fingerprint. I only see information that this device is not detected.

Biometric Devices.png

2. DigitalPersona informs that the fingerprint sensor was not detected.

Answers:

Ad. 1

The current version of DigitalPersona isn't integrated with Windows 7. That's why your fingerprint does not appear there like when you are using the AuthenTec TrueSuite software.

How you may check does the software works well?

If your fingerprint isn't detected by DigitalPersona then the icon of this program looks like this:

  • 4.10.3790

4.11 fingerprint not recognized.png

  • 4.11.3826

4.11 fingerprint not recognized.png

If your fingerprint is detected by DigitalPersona then the icon of this program looks like this:

  • 4.10.3790

4.11 fingerprint recognized.png

  • 4.11.3826

4.11 fingerprint recognized.png

This is usually caused by the Windows Firewall, which is by default switched on in the Windows 7 system. You will need to unblock some files in this application to ensure correct work of your fingerprint software and the driver.

In the below link you may check how to do it:

How to Add or Remove a Windows Firewall Exception in Windows 7

List of files which you need to unblock:

  • C:\Program Files\Fingerprint Sensor\AtService.exe
  • C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\Bin\DpAgent.exe
  • C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\Bin\DpHostW.exe
  • C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\Bin\DpDashBoard.exe
  • C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\Bin\DpRegApp.exe
  • C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\Bin\DPRunDll.exe

The same thing you need to do perform if you are using any 3rd party (other) firewall software.

If you don't want to do all this stpes you may always switch off Windows Firewall, but when you will do this your system will be vulnerable to attacks from outside (less secure). This solution is not recommended.

Hi I have a Pavilion dv7-2112tx. After upgrading to Windows 7 the fingerprint reader is not detected. I completed all the steps outlined here however the software will not work because it keeps asking me to plug in the USB device with the finger print reader. I cannot do that because it is built in!

As well as the finger print reader no longer being recognised the upgrade to Windows 7 has severely lowered my volume and the touch mute button remains permanently orange. Despite the orange mute button there is sound although not at the higher volume as before.

So far I have only found these two problems with upgrading to Windows 7.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix HP's flawed upgrade procedure?

IF THE ABOVE DOES NOT WORK FOR YOU TRY MY SOLUTION...........

After many many days of toil I have finally found the solution to get Validity VFS301 sensor working with Digital Persona on Win 7 64 bit as it is supposed to.

DO NOT INSTALL WBF drivers from any websites or from drivermax.. These drivers only allow logging in Win7 and not website log in.

1) First UNINSTALL all software and DDK (validity drivers)....

Make sure you also go to Control Panel => Device Manager => Validity Sensor

UNINSTALL the sensor and check "delete the driver software for this device"

2) Then make sure you REBOOT

3) Download and Install Validity drivers from HP

      ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48501-49000/sp48509.exe

4) REBOOT AGAIN ... it is important

5) Download Digital Persona ver 4.11.3805 from link below

         http://d11tvxmfjhi64o.cloudfront.net/X64/Setup.exe

     (This file is taken from

      http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq-voodoo-pc/404164-drivers-hp-dv6-gen-2-dv7-gen-3-dv8-hdx16-...

6)  RUN the Setup.exe

When it asks to install driver for finger print reader (the first dialog you get when you run the setup.exe)

      DO NOT click INSTALL

Leave the installation window as it is...

7) Open windows explorer by pressing win+E

😎 Go to

      C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\

click the column "Date Modified" to sort the last modified files first in the list

You will have a folder with   {05B54AFA-28C6-4FED-A0E6-3F235641DA1D} <============= EXAMPLE only it will be different on your computer

Go in the folder and you will see some ini files with a file named "fingerprint reader drivers.prq"

open "fingerprint reader drivers.prq" in notepad.exe

Delete all the lines of text in the file "fingerprint reader drivers.prq"  and save the empty file.

9) return to Digital Persona setup dialog mentioned in point 6

Now click INSTALL and let it install the software

It will open the same folder again and then continue install...

When it asks to REBOOT click YES

10)  After REBOOT the finger print reader is working without a hitch.
