HP 620 upgrade to a 5GHz wlan card

I have a HP 620 (WT249EA) W7 Home Premium (Bits)

already replaced the hdd with an intel 320 80GB ssd (which makes it work like a charm).
I want to replace the memory with 8GB (Kingston 2x KTH-X3B/4G or 2x KTH-X3A/4G), but that's for the future.

What I want to do is replace the wlan card with a card that supports GHz.
I found 3 cards from which i think 1 will not work (the 6300).

Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (2.4GHz and GHz + bluetooth)
Ultimate N WiFi Link 6300 (2.4GHz and GHz)

Advanced N Wifi Link 6200 (2.4GHz and GHz)

I have been looking around for compatibility lists and reviews etc. etc. but i can't find helpful hints and tips.

Can anybody tell me if one of those cards will work.

See Chapter 3 for the list of supported WLAN cards. These are the only ones that will work in your PC. In addition, you MUST only get one with the HP part number on the card.

So do your search by the part number, not the card model.

If you do not get a card with the HP part number on it, the PC WILL NOT boot until you remove the unsupported card.

You can probably find any of these cards in used but working condition on eBay.

I have been searching now for spec. with the numbers stated in the pdf, but have a hard time finding what i want.

Could you help me out a little?

When I look at it i have 5 options:

593533-001 Realtek RTL8191SE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter

593836-001 Broadcom 4313AGN 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi Adapter  (this should be a 5GHz card??)

600370-001 Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n (1x1) WiFi Adapter and 2070 Bluetooth 2.1 and EDR Combo Adapter

602992-001 Ralink RT3090 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter and Bluetooth and EDR Combo Adapter

605660-005 Atheros 9285G 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter

I am not sure i need the combo with bluetooth (have to find out when i'm back home)

Anyway i can't find the specs coming with these cards, so i can't find out which card has a 5GHz radio, how look at it only the 593836-001 Broadcom 4313AGN is, because it has a/b/g and draft-n.

But ofcourse i want the newest (not draft-n) 5GHz card.

it's about a Broadcom 4313????????????

Have been looking on eBay, but they are giving the part number and the name, so still no specs saying it is a card with 5GHz

I have also been trying to sent an email to HP but that's nearly impossible since they want all sorts of info about you're hardware that is not to be found in their list. A telephone number is not to be found on the (Dutch) site. etc etc etc.

Hi:

Yes, it is confusing. If it has the Bluetooth, I guess it is only 2.4 GHz. If it does not, and says it is A/G Draft N, then it is 5 GHz.

A wireless A card runs on the 5 GHz band so surely the N will run on the 5 GHz band.

Note the difference between the two descriptions:

593836-001 Broadcom 4313AGN 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi Adapter

600370-001 Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n (1x1) WiFi Adapter   No A and it says 1x1 (one band).

This was the part number and description of the one listed for my notebook: 

Broadcom 4321AGN 802.11a/b/g/n modules  434661-001. 

Because it has the 5 GHz A, that to me is the clue it is a dual band card.  If it just says BGN, then it is more than likely a 2.4 GHz card only.

I am pretty confident the 593836-001 Broadcom 4313AGN 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi Adapter listed for your notebook is a dual band card.

These are what are listed on eBay in the USA.  Unfortunately, they don't give much of a description.

There was only one of the A/G/N type and the seller does not ship to the Netherlands........................

I wonder why?

Anyway, thank you very much for your help.

I am going to keep Ebay on screen, hopefully i'll get lucky.

I recommend you Google the part number on the internet and see what you can find. Surely you can get one in the Netherlands.

Worst case scenario is you can buy it online right from HP-Netherlands. I queried the part # and here it is:

Thank you for that explanation.  I did not know that A ran at 5GHz.  That should make it easier to find a dual-band card.  Of course, I found this out after I burned many a moment trying to find out if this card was dual-band. I am swapping out my Intel 1000 in a day or two with the 593836-001.  I can post for sure if it is dual-band.  Again, thanks.
