Hi, Lloyd:
Click on your unknown wireless adapter in the device manager. Then click on the details tab. Post the top string of characters you see.
Those will ID the model wireless card you have, and I will be able to send you the link to the drivers.

Hi Paul,
The only thing I find is a 1394 net adapter, but the drivers are installed. There is also a Network Controller that is missing its driver as well as a PCI simple communications controller that is missing its driver. There are also three unknown devices. 1 ACPI\HPQ0004\3&B1BFB68&0 2 ACPI\HPQ0006\2&DABA3FF&0 3 ACPI\FX0102\4&28738126&0 I had wireless before the format.
Thanks, Lloyd

Hi, Lloyd:
OK, let's get busy on this...
Please post the device details ID string for the missing network controller and PCI simple comms controller:
The missing network controller could be your wireless card.
In the meantime, here are what I think the other drivers are:
First it is always recommended to install the chipset driver and to install it first:
Next let's get rid of the missing Mobile Data Protection System device:
I think the other one may be the Quicklaunch Buttons:
You need to also install the HP Wireless Assistant if it was present before you reformatted and reinstalled XP:
If that was installed prior to reinstalling your OS, even if you know you installed the correct WLAN driver, your wireless will not show up until the Wireless Assistant is reinstalled. Don't ask me why that is. The WLAN card even shows up as present and enabled in the BIOS! Same goes for your Bluetooth if you have one in your notebook.
Did you install your modem driver? It could be that, but I will know for sure when you post the device details ID string for it.
Please go ahead and install these drivers and post back with the information I requested and any other missing or remaining missing drivers from above.

Hi Paul,
WOW I never knew it could be so complicated. Here is the ID string for the network controller, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4222&SUBSYS_135B103C&REV_02\4&4878531&0&00E1. The PCI Comm. controller ID is PCI\VEN_104C&CEV_803D&SUBSYS_309F103C&REV_00\4&2EC23395&0&34F0. Yes I did have quick launch & wireless assistant before I had to format. I will install the other drivers ASAP.
Thanks Very Much, Lloyd

Hi. Lloyd:
Yep, the first one is your missing Intel 3945ABG Wireless LAN controller.
Here's the driver for that: The first one is just the driver. The second one has the driver and wireless utility. I just use the dirver and let Windows manage my wireless connections. That is your choice.
The second one is your TI Media card driver:
You may as well install the SD card driver too:
Please post back if you need any others.

Hi Paul,
I downloaded all the drivers you suggested except the one for the Intel 3945ABG Wireless LAN controller. When I go to the link you provided it says for Windows 7. Is this correct?
Thanks again for all your help, I'll let you know how everything goes after I do the installs.
