Btw these drivers are only for comps that have both an ati card and intel switchable graphics

I personally am aware of that, however, I was wondering if these drivers being posted around apply only to the specific computer model or not, because I tried going the route of "having disk" to install the driver but still no go...

HP dv7 6178us (Product: Ly849ua#aba) (Windows 7 64)

I let the Hp assistent update some drivers and now the intel and Radeon 6490m graphics are incompatable.  I can only start the computer in safe mode, other wise screen goes blank, the touchpad's lights turn off and then the whole computer freezes. I have only had this computer a week a some days, and the Hp assitent destroys my comupter!

Do you think the zip file on here will work with my graphic card?

thanks for your help!

I have a pavilion dv6-3135eo, which has the HD5650 as the main graphics card, but ATI Mobility Radeon HD4250 as the switchable card. As with all the others in this thread, my driver for the HD5650 is really old, from april 2010 (8.712).  Some help/support would be much appreciated!

Hi,

I provide community support for battlelog in a Volunatary aspect. I have just have had my first HP laptop user visit me over the outdated driver issue. First might i say thank you to the user who posted the manually altered drivers

Seconds to the moderaters/ HP themselfs can i say this. You disgust me. You sell users pc's and then do not bother to provide updated drivers. You not only do that you lock out any ability of updating drivers. The thing about OEM and why you and PB are already dead, why Alienware will fail one day. Is that you introduce users to PC's they then learn how to use them. They then learn why exactly OEM sucks so bad indeed. There second PC is not a OEM machine, espically if they are a gamer. What the hell do you expect?

ASUS i will hand it to them, i took this issue their about there drivers being outdated and they updated them only a year old they were like yourselfs.... Seriously? Why? You can allow the cards to update off ATI or you can actually fund a department to test them in order to speed up the ability to provide them to your users. I know you get this alot and money is the only thing that speaks to you. Paying for something like i dunno one dude to sit there and test drivers is to much for you as you get Nothing in return but your customors ability to play the latest titles problem free.

What is the point in companys like ATI in making drivers? is there any but only for the custom builds, because if companys like HP owned the world there would be no updated drivers. Only one because updates cost money. Seriously letting your users share third party drivers is just bad practice, to actually promote it because you cant be bloody asked to update them is something else entirley. (no offence there poster of customness) but this is just horrible imo. FYI im a custom PC owner and i will never be stupid enough to buy a OEM device. Half the users i have dealt with and i deal with alot are mainly down to buying a Gamer device thats made by some dooshy company who does not update their drivers. This then leaves them stuck between a rock and a hard place. Do they return game? or wait for a company that has not updated their drivers in the past 6 months. You can blag that you need to test them but you obviously don't do anything to support a device past selling it.

Please change your company practices or just quite simpley vanish from the Gamer scene. I will not stop assisting any user who contacts me over a OEM caused issue. But im not going to come to a forum with 9 pages of users crying about a issue that is soley caused by a bad company module. If you will not support gamers NEEDS for the most up to date drivers. Do not market your products at gamers. IMF stick a nice big sticker that says on it "you would be better off buying a Imac" because as bad as that sounds its just true. Sort it the hell out.

Same problem.
HP Pavilion dv6 laptop. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

Driver:

8.692.1.0

Tried to download Mediafire linked update but it keeps freezing sometimes half way through, sometimes after only a few minutes. Bluescreen memory dump. Kaput. Are downloads affected by video card too?

Happening for months now - can't watch video - 100's of crashes. Very unstable.

I'd attempted direct download from AMD prior to scanning this forum, thinking the Catalyst downloader would work - but it has I think - made my computer worse.

To drive customers away from HP I suppose this is a  good way to do it. Assumed the auto-update was trustworthy - otherwise I hope HP can see - its of negative value.

I need a modded driver for ati switchable graphics. I have no intel parts in my computer. That might be why it did not work.

well. count me in on yet another annoyed customer. bought mine this year, was having tons of problems with my graphic card and glitches and whatnots. got told by support (after some serious hunting by me to find them) that it was overheating. i followed the instructionsas told by the support guy and naturally it was not overheating, it was just a driver issue. all hardware is fine, and both the test the support guy told me to do, including my own tests have shown no sign of anything wrong with my hardware. it's just an outdated driver causing troubles.

what's more, the problems i had was not only recognised, but also fixed in an updated driver.

eventually managed to hack my os into an updated driver with some magic and some patience. luckily i know my way around computers.  now i had to reinstall my os some time ago, and with some of the latest hp support assistants, it seems **bleep** right impossible for me to get an updated graphics driver.

what's even worse, I am playing this game, and i am paying them moneys per month, and it's unplayable right now because they recently updated it and it requires the latest grpahics driver unless you get serious artifacts. only happens in this aprticular game so it's still not a hardware fault, but since HP has the worst support in the history of companies, i can't update my driver without breaking the terms of use, voiding my guarantee all while praying to god that i don't accidentally brick my machine.

needless to say. HP, if you are reading this: i am never ever buying a HP product in my entire life. i have even deterred friends from buying them.

that's what you get when you provide this support. bad reputation.

i understand that you are a global corporation and that you release more products per month than your average customer buys per year, but honestly, you are 15+ updates behind, and most games requires the latest drivers and the latest directx to play. now, since this is a graphics card one would assume that you would understand the importance of this.

but hey, we paid for it, so what the hell do you care, you already got your moneys, right?

shame on you, HP.

this is my first and only buy from your company.

I think I found a solution, or at least one that seems to be working for me.  I have a dv6 entertainment notebook, windows 7 64bit, ATI Radeon mobility HD 5650 switchable graphics.  My computer overheated with power play on and underperformed with it off.

I downloaded the modded driver posted in the following thread and went through the instructions, first making sure to remove any existing ATI drivers: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/mobility-radeon-drivers-support/206549-ati-catalyst-mobility-11-11-dis...

***Read through the whole thread, there are some special instructions for certain systems that are not in the first post but are covered later.

I had tried this earlier without uninstalling the old drivers for fear of screwing up the switchable graphics but did not see much of an improvement and was still overheating (90*C) with power play on.

Since installing the new driver, my temps have dropped about 10-15 degrees across the board and I can now keep power play on without the computer overheating, which allows me to run games smoothly on reasonably high graphics settings.  It has taken me over a year to get this resolved, and I am thrilled to seemingly have found a solution.  Hope it works for others.

Guys, guys, guys, calm down. I fixed it, no bullcrap.

I went through the ringer with HP support for hours, ended up going way out in left field and fixed it. It's not the driver (it is, but that's not the heart of it). It's Catalyst. Keep the driver, completely uninstall ATI catalyst. The graphics card will still switch whether it's plugged in or not, that's a BIOS feature.

I uninstalled Catalyst, every single game I was having an issue with is now fixed. Swear to god.
