My Wireless Lan Adapter stopped working and said it was disabled, but i was not able to enable it by any means, so i was looking around for a solution and i had a hunch that it was an just a bad windows update. So i opened up System Restore as instructed by Help, and restored to the recomended restore point which took about a minute to do, requiring maybe 4 or 5 clicks of the mouse and my laptop restarted and it was all good once more 🙂 System Restore worked for me!

It takes no time and is easy to do... definitely worth a try if you havent already 🙂

Not the issue here. My dead WiFi is due to a manufacturing defect: poor solder on the GPU:smileymad:

I have been having this issue myself on my dv6 with Windows 7 64-bit. I have had the computer since Labor Day 2010. Only started having these issues around May or June of 2011. If it is the motherboard, then I am concerned how much I'd have to pay for it and have to back up my files to my portable hard drive. Everything else on my computer works and I do use a cooler pad that I plus into the USB of my computer.

Take a look at this URL. The bad solder on the GPU is probably causing your WiFi issue. the power for the mini-PCI socket is tapped from the GPU. I watched this fellows' Youtube video on the "reballing" process that will most likely fix your issue. I jus spent $8.00 for a wireless N USB dongle from Monoprice.com.

I hope this helps!

Hey, My hp pavilion dv6 wifi indicater is acting up. Like It says there is not connection when in reality there is and lets me connect to whatever network i want ( sometimes).
I would Like to know how i can fix this because sometimes something happens to my internt service but i can't tll if its that i lost wifi or if it's just being slow. It shows the bars with a red X on it. It only goes away when i have an ethernet cable connected and then it turns into a computer with no red X on it.

Currently Its showing the computer icon with a red X on it while im doing this.

I have the wifi but the indicator icon is saying the contary. HELP?!

I FOUND A SOULUTION TO MY PROBLEM!!! Read some of my previous comments that were made just a few hous ago.

To solve this problem, what I had to do was go to "open and sharing  center" then click on "change adapter" if you have a network bridge you have to disable it then deleted it. You'll have to wait approximately five minutes so your internet connection returns. If it doesn't restart it.

Remember, what ever was hooked up to that network bridge will no longer work. You will have to re do a network bridge but you might gain the proble again.

To be honest it does no harm to you PC. It's just annoying. If this doesnt help try your LAN.  If that doesnt help try going to the follwing website and see if any of these peoples solution works for you. Each PC is diffrent so one of the things that ppl on the website stated should help.

GOOD LUCK!
