Ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro on my HP Pavillion (dv7-1223ca) , several keys on my keyboard haven't been working properly. I've upgraded and downgraded my computer many times, and this hasn't happened before. When I press the G, H, backspace, or apostrophe keys, they won't work unless I press one of them around thirty or forty times. Once I get one of them working, they all start to work properly for about five minutes, and then it goes back to being broken.
This is a major hassle as I use my laptop for work. I've tried reinstalling the keyboard drivers, but this hasn't helped. Does anyone have any ideas?
Also, two of the keys on my keyboard (alt and delete) came off completely and won't go back on. Is there any chance HP would be able to replace these?

On the key that have come off, you will need to replace the entire keyboard, that is if you are not able to insert it back...
On the keys not working, that looks like keyboard problem, but we can check in BIOS as well. In BIOS go to Security, highlight Admin password and press enter, now try and test the keys there, if it does not work there as well than we have confirmed keyboard issue....

I tried it in the BIOS and it still didn't work properly, so it looks like the keyboard is the problem. I'll see if I can get it replaced. Thanks for your help. The Kudos button wouldnt work, though.

Several keys suddenly stopped working on my HP laptop. These keys are no longer operable: g, h, Backspace, 8 on the numeric keypad, * on numeric keypad. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1. What's up with this?
I tried cleaning the keys and changing keyboard drivers, but nothing helps. THe laptop's warranty expired 3 months ago, naturally. Please help.

My tenage son tried to sync my dv7 pavillion with my Samsung tablet in order to enable me transfer my files to my tablet. Unfortunately he did not realize that my DV7 Pavilion does not have bluetooth and therefore the sync did not work. Since then my wireless key has remained stuck and does not automatically turn on (blue) when I boot my computer as it used to do . It remains stuck in the Orange color. I have to tap the key many times before it can turn blue...and it does so only in the rebooting mode. I believe there is a software conflict somewhere. Can anyone help?

So, my Pavilion dv7 has been working fine for a year - until this afternoon that is. Trying to use the computer today and I also have 4 keys that are not working - specifically, q w e r - every other key works correctly, but shifted and un-shifted, but those 4 do not register at all - not even if I press them 100 times. They do not register with any modifiers either (shift, ctrl, alt). They were working fine last night and no one has touched the computer today. Also, no chance that food or liquid has entered into the keyboard apparatus. Cycling power has not helped.

I ave te exact same problem. I tink ewlett pacard needs to step up and recal and repair teseissue. if tey will not elp repair a laptoptats onlty 2 monts old ten i say boycott all teir products and put tem out of business cuz tey build sit computers anyway. too bad cuz at first i like tis laptop. i uess if you want a quality prio=\. welll no all kinds of keys arent workin. all typos in te messae are priducts of te keyboard not functionin properly. p sucks donkey balls. BUY A MAC!

The g,h, and back space problem has been going on for many years with multiple modles of HP laptops. Ive seen threads for this as far back as 2005. It is not the keyboard as most would assume. People just state its the keyboard because it seems like common sense would make the keyboard the most obvious cause but in reality they are to lazy to do any research and see that hundreds to thousands of HP users have had the same exact problem with the same keys over the years.
Nothing wrong with trying to help but do some research of the problem before assuming or telling people its the keyboard because it isnt.Heck if you do a Google search for HP G,H,backspace keys not working you will find thousands of threads about this issue.
Here is one for you guys.... I had the G,H,and Backspace problem on my DV6 6172 and installed a brand new keyboard and the same problem STILL existed with the new keyboard. Keys G,H, and backspace didnt work. The odds of a brand new keyboard having the same exact issue are virtually zero.
Its not the keyboard period. The problem lies elsewhere. Meaning it is either the motherboard or the pins in the connector on the motherboard where the keyboard ribbon is inserted,or curruption with the bios, or possibly software drivers.Odds are the problem is the keyboard connector itself on the motherboard.
What I dont get is since this exact problem has existed for at least 8 years or longer......why in the heck has HP not figured out the cause and eliminated it by now by making better quality parts?????
I will never by another HP again and suggest others reading this take the same advice.
I bought a DV6 6172nr i7 for $1200 and 14 months after I bought it the monitor went bad. I had to replace it.As predicted they wouldnt warranty their lemon monitor because it was 60 days out of warranty. If it would have been something minor like the hard drive or something it would have been one thing but they refused to stand by their product when a major part went bad barely out of the 1 year warranty period.
Now 17 months after I bought it the common HP issue..........G,H,and Backspace issue has appeared. I have a ten year old Dell P4 laptop and it has never had any issues like this.
Also HP locks their bios so you cant upgrade parts in their laptops. I bought a dualband 2.4ghz/5ghz HP brand Wirless N card so I could use the 5ghz bandwidth in my network and couldnt get it to work so had to go back to my original 2.4ghz wireless N card.
After researching it extensively I found out that this was because HP purposely locks their bios so you cant upgrade parts.
No they will never get my business again. Ive never bought a laptop or pc with so many issues in my life before I bought an HP. Stay away from HP laptops if you are smart.
