I have an HP2000 set up with Windows 7. I also have a wireless router and a cable modem. How do hook up this laptop to the modem?

If you wish to connect the laptop directly to the cable modem... unplug the ethernet cable that goes from the cable modem to the wireless router, from the wireless router. Now, plug that cable into the RJ-45 jack on your laptop. Next, re-boot both the cable modem and the laptop. You should now have internet on that laptop.

If you wish to use a wireless connection instead... goto "Control Panel", "Network and Internet", "Connect to a Network" and chose your wireless network. Now enter the passcode if needed.

Hi,

This is my suggestion:

  • Hook the wireless router to the modem and make it as an access point (AP). How to setup should be in the manual which comes with the router. You can use this AP for more than one computer.
  • Connect your laptop to the router using normal Network connections from Windows 7.

Regards.
