How to find if the notebook has a Single Band or Dual band wireless card and how to connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.

Is there a tool or utility that will allow me to access these details. And if the noteboook has the capability to connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks ,What is the process.

The product manual does not say which kind of wireless card is installed.

Hi:

Look in your device manager. What model card is listed under network adapters?

Post the entire description you see.

I'll see what I can find out about it.

I'm not the person who first posted this but I have the same question. I have a Realtek RTL8191SE adapter. My laptop is less than a year old, so I can't believe the network card isn't dual band-capable, but I Googled it and can't find anything about it being able to detect the 5 GHz band.

Just got a dual-band router. Did I waste my money?

Thanks.

Hi:

Your card is only a 2.4 GHz band card.

Did you waste your money?

I would say you have invested for future expansion.  :generic:

Hi,

I came across this post while wondering the same question.

My Wifi Adapter is:

Broadcom BCM 43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter

May I know if this is 2.5 or 5 GHz?

Thanks.

Hi:

Your Broadcom BCM 43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter is a single band (2.4 GHz) card.

The easy way to tell if a wireless N card is single or dual band, is to look at the end descriptor of the device in the device manager.

If it is listed as a bgn card, it is a single band (2.4) GHz only card.

If it is listed as an abgn or agn card, it is a dual band (2.4GHz/5.0 GHz) wireless card.

Paul,

Do you have any idea how to find out which dual band cards will work with my G7?

Hi:

Check chapter 3 of the service manual for the specific model g7 notebook you have.
