I just purchased a brand-new in box Pavilion dv5-2045dx, with a backlit keyboard. However, when I press the dedicated button (the one with the image of 3 keys between Print Screen and Delete), nothing happens. I went into the BIOS and reset the Action Key setting (as none of the other function keys were working), but still nothing. Is there a setting I'm missing?

hello?

Belated Welcome to the Forum.

I am sorry no one has helped you.

I suspect you are not getting a response because no one has an answer.

I've looked and the only place that may have had an answer is not longer posted (it was not on this forum).

If you just purchased the product, have you tried calling HP for support?  If you do not wish to talk on the phone, you can open a chat session through HP Support Assistant or through the HP website.

One thing that may work, if you've not already tried it,

Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect everything from your notebook, including the battery and the AC (power).
  • Press and hold down the Power button for 10-15 seconds.
  • Install the battery,
  • Connect the AC (power).,
  • Boot.

Good Luck.

The computer is out of warranty (bought it new-in-box from someone else), and I'm not paying for out of warranty support for something that should have worked to begin with.

A hard reset did nothing.

Well, Rats.

Windows 7 Manual says you have done the right thing:  Press the "triple" key - backlight should come on.

You may want to download your hardware manual, too.  You may want it later.

I was looking for an answer and couldn't find one.  I did look at my keyboard and found the key that worked.  Mine on the dv6t it is on the right side above the backspace next to the delete key.  Hope this helps.

I've had my HP Notebook PC  for 7 months. The backlit never "went on," or worked from day one. A month ago, like magic, when I powered up one day, there it was. Today, I powered up and it was gone. Tried restart, and still no backlit. Last noght it was fine; today it is gone. Help?
