I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1285dx and I have been unable to find specs as to the maximum size hard drive supported, I am currently still running Vista. I also need to know what interfaces are supported by the drive controller

Thanks in advance

You actually have space for 2 hard drives in that laptop. To add a second drive you just need a caddy; no connector needed the SATA connectors plug right into the motherboard. The drives you need are SATA-II 2.5 inches wide and no more than 9.5 mm thick. The second bay has a size limit is 250 gig I believe but the main bay can take up to a 1 TB drive, just be careful not to get one 12 mm thick.

2d drive caddy

compatible 1TB drive

You do not need a new caddy for only one drive; just reuse the old one. Good luck.

Hello Zooooooom.

You should definitely make sure to update your BIOS before installing the SSDs.  You will need to boot into Windows in order to flash the BIOS.

I'll happily locate the BIOS for you.  Do you have the dv7-1285dx?  If not identify the notebook by the product number.  This document can show you where it is located.

I hope you have a great day!
