Same position really, thinking of increasing the 1GB RAM in my Mini 311-1101 up to either 2GB or 3GB. The p/n is VY271EA#ABU. The memory screen from CPU-Z is here. There was nothing in either SPD tab for mine either, so the screen from SIW is here.

@Mayhemers

Hi,

For the first time I see this kind of problem with checking what kind of memory is installed in laptop.

It looks then this must be checked with CPU-Z and SIW.

First software gave me information that you've got DDR3 memory

1290i53A828B16FE5ACFF

and second that this 1066Mhz one.

1291iAF6B73E89BC8689E

The best choice will be to buy 2GB DDR3 1066MHz. After mounting it in laptop you will have 3 GB of RAM which according to this what I see in documentation is max capacity for this model. This is confirmed by SIW too.

Important notes:

  • 1333Mhz is not worth to buy. This would be just paying for something which will not be used fullly. In mix 1333 with 1066 Ram speed of this first one will be lowered to this second .
  • it will be good to buy and RAM stick in shop which allow you to return product if it will not work well. I saw somwehere on forum report that there was a problem with installing Ram from one brand on other mini model (example: Crucial or Newegg).

Cheers... running through things like this lets me "learn" how to understand how to find out stuff to help out others later 😛

There's a computer shop near to where I live, I might pop in there and see if they can get a stick in for me...

Here is it: http://www.box.net/shared/3mdqk468mc

I guess it's 1066 than?

and another thing, is it a 64-bit system?

Yes.

You've got 32 bit processor, so 64 bit system will not work with it.

Your mini have pre-installed by HP Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 32-bit.

Looks like the same as mine. Run the memory checker on Crucial's website to be sure. The 2GB I got from them worked fine inside my Mini 311.

OK, I'll check it again with their tool later,

Thanks

Hi!

Im trying to upgrade the ram on my mini 311c. I've opened it but I'm not sure where and how should I put the new RAM. I know its DDR 3 1066MHz, but with the netbook opened Im not really sure where to put a new piece of RAM (assuming that can be done, i.e. there's a free slot im not seeing.)

Thank you!!

Regards

This diagram might help for your installation... it's the same upgrade I just did (see earlier in this thread).

Insert chips upwards, there should be another RAM slot on the right side of the open area. You will need to insert roughly at 45 degrees and push hard, it needs to be full shoved in there, and then press down to click into the metal holders on either side

Here is service documentation for mini 311. On page 56 you will find informations how to insert RAM stick into the memory module slot. Below you will find  YouTube video on which you may check where is located empty slot for RAM:
