Sup guys, im in dire need of some help, my hard drive on my computer stopped working, I would get a flashing typing key thing and it would say please insert a disk and when i did a diagnostics, i got hard drive errors so i went and bought a new one.

In order to take the old one out i had to remove the hard drive cables, the big white thing that plugs into the motherboard, the cpu fan and cable.

I put in the new hard drive, put everything back the way it should be and when i boot it up all im getting are no input signals on my monitor, i tried it out on 3 different monitors and got the same thing.

here are some pics of the inside of my computer:

If you notice the VGA thing in the 2nd pic, shouldn't there be more added to it? I mean besides plugging in the monitor cable, i feel like there should be something added to the back of it, i just noticed it now, the computer and display was working perfectly before.

It's an HP the model number is a6655f, it came with vista but after putting in the new HD i plan on putting windows 7, i have a copy of it.

I'm guessing this is with the new Hard drive, and am I correct in assuming you have already installed windows 7?

Sounds like you need drivers for the drive, and sounds like a easy fix, download the drivers and install them 🙂 I believe when you install windows 7 it gives you the option of installed drivers.

Oh and you could try changing the SATA to IDE in the BIOS and see if that helps 🙂

Nope nothing goes into the back of it all you do is plug the monitor into the VGA connector and it should work, if it's not working then it means there is something wrong with the monitor cable the VGA connector or the graphics card itself. Are you sure you connected the monitor to the right connector and it hasn't come loose?

If your monitor isn't 1 of those annoying ones which has the cable actually attached to the monitor I would suggest checking the cable and make sure it's securely in place on both the monitor and back of case, use the screws to tighten it. If that doesn't work try a different cable and if that doesn't work then it's gonna be worse case scenario which is either the vga socket has borken or the onboard graphics has broken, either way you would need to send it to HP for repair or buy a dedicated graphics card which will probably be cheaper.

It can't be the VGA connector or the onboard graphics, I plugged in my nvidia geforce 9600 gt and I still got a no input signal message. I know for a fact it's not any of these things or the motherboard, all I did when I put the new HD in was;

Removed the cpu fan

Removed the big white cable that plugs into the mobo

Removed the ram

Removed the bay that the HD goes into, took the old HD out and put the new one in, hooked everything back up perfectly and still no input signal.

Before I did all that It booted up just fine but I got a biohd-2/8 error so i replaced the HD.

I can't even get to the mobo screen because of the no input signal thing, any other solutions i can try please?

As you say you get the message with a different graphics card It would have to be a problem with the VGA cable since nothing else could cause this problem.

Each monitor I tried had it's own cable, I also have another desktop that I plugged in and it worked with the same VGA cable but the HP in question isn't working, im getting the same no input signal message, I might put the old HD back in and see if that solves anything.

Any other feedback please?

Am I correct in assuming your motherboard doesn't have a LED on it? I can't really tell from the pictures. Also does the system actually start up like do the fans start spinning, the DVD drive make a noise etc?

The thing that gets me is if it was a HDD problem you would see some text saying unable to boot from HDD or some other error. Also Any problems with hardware usually you hear a series of beeps. But your not getting anything like that so I'm just completely baffled, it just sounds as if the PC is booting up but just doesn't want to display anything on the screen.

I'm going to have to look into this problem some more and hopefully find a fix for your problem.

Edit:

If you press and hold Del, F2 or whatever button to get into bios does the screen display the bios information? Looking at tomshardware someone found that they had gotten to plug the cpu connector back in and the bios battery had been removed however looking at the pictures I wouldn't have thought the 4 pin cpu connector not being plugged in is the problem because I think it is plugged in on that first picture.

I don't think my mobo has an LED light. When I boot the pc everything turns on, I heard the fans, the dvd drive, no beeps at all. It boots up perfectly just no image is displayed.

I'm not getting any texts at all when I boot but I'll try the del/escape key thing to see if that does anything. I made sure everything was plugged in and secure. I can try unplugging everything and putting it back in, all I removed cpu wise was the fan and the bracket for it which I secured back on. I'm baffled by this as well, never had anything like this happen and I fix a lot of computers, I'm not sure what's going on but I'm certain it's something simple.

Thank you for looking more into it, I really appreciate it.

Edit: Would me taking a video of the inside help you at all? I could do that and show each cable is plugged in and what not.

From what you've told me everything should be working fine, disconnecting and reconnecting wouldn't cause any harm so give it a shot. also making a video although I don't see how it would help as you seem to have done everything right it might be a good idea, it could be while your filming the computer it starts working and from my past experience with videoing a problem it usually does fix it lol.

You said you don't hear any beeps, could the speaker be disconnected? Most Motherboards either have 1 built in or need a case 1 attaching such as my PC.

Edit:

Forgot 1 thing that is such a small thing that has been causing my friends some problems, Replace the battery on the Motherboard, This can cause some silly problems and is such a quick and easy fix. I suppose it would be really annoying if you went through all that trouble because of a tiny round battery.

Well it finally worked, i got passed the no input signal message but now im having another problem.

When I try to install windows 7, I'm getting an error where the HD isn't being recognized, my bios shows it instantly with the full name, but when I get passed the part where you select your keyboard, language, region I get greeted by this:

A required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, Cd, dvd, or usb flash drive, please insert it now.

After that one, i get this:

No device drivers were found. Make sure that th einstallation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK.

When I click on browse, I see that for drive C it says removable storage C.

Any help with this?
