Does anyone else have this crazy problem? I'll be typing along and all of a sudden the keys don't make words, they open different windows and move things, but no letters, no matter WHAT! Is there some key I'm hitting to make that happen? Rebooting fixes it..happened three times now!

Yes, I keep having this problem ALL the time, about once every other day!  Very frustrating.  I hope someone replies soon so we can get this resolved.  Very unhappy with this, my first, HP notebook.

Yes, I have this problem. The keyboard seems to switch to a different mode where each key is a shortcut to other things, for example one letter opens the bookmark window. But none of them are characters anymore. I don't know how I trigger it, but the only way I can remedy the problem is to reboot.  I can still point and click, just can't use the keyboard.

Hoping someone replies to this soon,  I have the same problem.   I have a pavilion g6 laptop, and it happens a few times a day.  Keyboard stops typing and just opening windows of other things instead.  Always works again after rebooting.  But is just a massive inconvinience to have to reboot all the time, and is hard to save documents properly without a functioning keyboard!!

I have a quick fix for the problem until hp ifgures out what's causing it, if you launch the onscreen keyboard and then close it down your hardware keyboard will work again

to make it easy for myself I created a shortcut for the onscreen keyboard, here is the target

C:\Windows\System32\osk.exe

this will keep you going until ho comes uo with a fix

Thanks SO much for the tip, perriscal -- I have put the shortcut on the desktop and will definitely try it next time!

I am having this issue as well. I have used computers since the 80's and never encountered this issue. Here I blamed my child for downloading a trojan!

I cannot rely on using HP laptops when this issue exists.

I have found that switching users (even to myself) seems to be a quick fix.

Happening to me everday. Thought it was a virus but my virus scanner keeps coming up clean. Also at the samr time my keyboard shuts, every internet page I try to view opens up in a new tab.

Fix this please!

It drives me nuts! Does the same thing at least every other day and the only way I found was to reboot, but after reading this forum I also put the onscreen keyboard on short cut on my desktop and IT JUST happened again as I was logging in here and I did opened the onscreen keyboard with my mouse then closed it and the keyboard worked again!

I wish I knew what I was doing to turn on the short cuts though so I could just prevent it from happening. very annoying!
