Problem with Pavilion dv8 top slider bar (treble/bass control)

I just want to say a big thank you to Brian and Haggis. This problem seems to gradually get worse and lately I have been at the point of chucking the thing out of the window in frustration ( I work on the laptop so use it a lot) as the wireless was on/off all of the time.

As a complete novice in the kind of repair I didn't expect it to work. I purchased the Kaptons tape and used some foil type tape I had laying around. It was actually used to line a motorcycle fairing near the exhaust so the fairing didn't melt - so I was not sure it was the right stuff.

To be honest i had difficulty following some of the instructions until I came across the image posts. These helped a lot.

So the end result is after about a year and a half (and two returns to HP) the laptop is working as it should.

This repair took me half an hour. No doubt if the HP techs were made aware of this it would take them 5-10mins and the people who paid out a lot of money for this laptop would be spared the pain and frustration of trying to live with the issue.

It's not like this repair would cost HP as it would be cheaper than their replacement policy (which does not solve the problem anyway).

HP have lost me as a customer and I'm in no doubt they couldn't care less.

So for anyone like me who is a bit unsure about this:

Let me save you a lot of time and aggravation. Brian220x's fix WORKS! No software will fix this problem, I've tried them all over the last 28 months. Some will SEEM to fix the problem but it WILL return. It is because of the improper/insufficient EMI shielding inside the unit. I followed the instructions in brian220x's, HaggisCat's and Pacman_d's posts (good photos BTW) and made sure everything was covered(shielded) and properly grounded. It has been two weeks and I have not had one single spurious activation of any of the touchpad functions. I have even turned the tone control service back on, no problems and EVERYTHING works properly. Since about a week after I bought it, my DV8T-1000 has NEVER, EVER gone two weeks without something on the touchpad 'freaking out' (mostly the wireless)... until now.

THANK YOU guys for isolating this problem, showing how to fix it.

How pathetic a company HP has sunk to when customers are forced to resolve HP's engineering failures on their own...

I also performed this fix last night and so far everything is working perfectly. I have downloaded about 20 gigs of data without the wireless turning off once and used it throughout the day with no problems. The purchased the Kapton tape 1/2" and copper foil tape 1/2" from amazon which only took a few days to arrive. You could prob get away with 1/4" tape as I did have to trim it for some areas like on the bottom of the touch pad.

The most difficult part for me was removing the keyboard cover (peace that has the touch controls). It is very difficult to get undone but don't be affraid ro really put some force into it. Its quite tough and flexible. As HaggisCat said earlier start at the top near the screen and work your way around the sides and to the bottom. The sides were the most difficult. Try to pull it in towards the keyboard and up.

I would also like to thank Brian and HaggisCat for their help with this. You guys are awesome.

As others have said, this was the LAST thing I will ever purchase from HP

e allo stesso modo continua a regolare da solo bassi e treble.

 Problema risolto !!!!!!!


Ho appena finito di mettere di nuovo insieme e funziona perfettamente! Il mio sistema è stato molto facile per testare, perché quando ho spinto appena sopra il tasto F9 il muto e Wifi sarebbe andato pazzo 100% per cento del tempo. Beh, non è guasto, non importa dove io stampa o quanto sia difficile. Sono in grado di premere uno dei pulsanti a sfioramento capacitivo senza problemi per la prima volta.

 

Ci sono due parti del problema. Il primo è la messa a terra statica e schermatura. Il secondo è l'esposto tappi metallici del connettore LIF. Questo è il connettore che le spine cavo a nastro nel LED sulla scheda. Quando ho premuto sul LED prima della revisione, il caso metalliche esposte connettore comporta il trasferimento della carica statica per il corpo appena sotto di esso e causare una mancata accensione del circuito tocco tappo, innescando un azionamento quando non era voluto. Questo si è verificato anche in modo casuale quando il potenziale carica statica raggiunto livelli abbastanza alti e saltò a terra anche causando un azionamento indesiderato.

 

La soluzione era quella di proteggere il cavo a nastro con il nastro sottile foglio di temperatura e aumentare la superficie del terreno esistente pad nastro della stagnola che poggia su. Ho anche fissato il cavo a nastro per il pad a terra con strisce di nastro supplementare stagnola. Poi ho coperto il connettore LIF con nastro Kapton per isolarlo ma ha lasciato spazio sufficiente per inserire ancora il cavo a. Una volta che il corpo del connettore in metallo è stato isolato ho messo sottili strisce di nastro di alluminio su di esso lasciando ancora aperto il connettore per il cavo a nastro. Un buon riferimento da utilizzare è la serratura di guida di plastica che viene spinta in per assicurare la fine del cavo alla LIF. Coprire solo la plastica / custodia metallica dei LIF, ma non il fermo scorrevole, altrimenti non sarà in grado di fissare il cavo nel connettore. Coprire il Kapton con del nastro della stagnola per schermare e terra esso. È anche fare sul vogliono provocare qualcosa di corto circuito sul nastro della stagnola che viene aggiunto.

 

L'idea di taping il cavo a nastro fino alla sezione esistente piccolo foglio di schermatura non è un'idea nuova, ma esposto tappi metallici fine del LIF non è stata menzionata. Questa è la ragione principale per cui molte persone hanno fallito quando si esegue il "nastro giù" metodo del cavo al pad terra stagnola. La mia via cavo è stata assicurata anche per il pad con adesivo. L'unico problema era che la schermatura del cavo non è stato abbastanza a lungo e le estremità del LIF (bassa forza di inserimento) connettore dove esposti.

 

Ho anche messo qualche protezione nella parte inferiore di tutto il Consiglio touch cappuccio (scheda LED) e oltre il giro mini sub woofer e avvolgendo il potere e finimenti wifi per limitare la EMI alla scheda di contatto tappo (scheda del LED). Questo può essere fatto mettendo nastro estruso sul canale che il cablaggi risiedono in Io non sono sicuro di quanto sopra la schermatura del fascio aveva davvero, perché di solito questo genere di problema comporta una mancanza di risposta e non attivazione automatica. Il nastro della stagnola schermatura che ho posizionato sulla parte inferiore della scheda LED ha contribuito a fornire un percorso bello del terreno per qualsiasi carica residua statica quindi vorrei essere sicuro di includere tale passo, ma si può omettere il probabile capo imbracatura.

 

Dopo aver preso i raggi X della scheda LED ho potuto vedere che la progettazione e fab è stato effettivamente molto buona, quindi, che ha lasciato il problema statico. si esegue questa operazione si risolve il problema fino a quando non si dispone di qualche altro problema di fondo, come una scheda difettosa o LED di alimentazione. Dopo aver trovato la causa posso quasi con certezza concludere che il drive Blu-Ray non è parte del problema.

 

In un'altra nota, ho trovato un sacco di viti allentate e aggiungendo in sottili strati di nastro di alluminio fatto tutta la tastiera e il LED del pannello pulsante sento molto più robusto e rigido. Quasi come se fosse stato progettato in modo corretto. Purtroppo le viti allentate non finiscono per essere la causa del problema né la flessione della tavola LED. Ciò è escluso a causa del fatto che avrei potuto innescare l'attuazione di una falsa senza venire a diretto contatto con il pannello. Il solo fatto abbastanza vicino ad esso con la punta del mio dito lo farebbe impazzire, tutti senza carico reale applicata al montaggio.

 

Questo è tutto quello che posso comprendere, ma per stasera ne posterò qualche info in più in seguito. Non ho fatto nessuna foto da quando avevo pianificato di smontarla di nuovo, non aspetta di risolvere il problema al primo tentativo.

 

Sto cercando di cercando di progettazione e produzione di un kit che sarebbe venuto a morire guarnizioni tagliate schermatura o almeno mettere fuori le informazioni per chiunque voglia ottenere dei pulsanti del touch capacitivo di lavoro una volta per tutte. Non è molto difficile applicare il nastro della stagnola, ma è la prova che non ingannare dal momento che tutti possono interpretare e applicare la correzione in modo diverso. L'obiettivo è di mettere fuori un kit, nonché le informazioni necessarie che permettano uno ripetibile retrofit.

 

I pannelli sono un po 'paura a decollare poiché si sente come hanno intenzione di rompere, ma che fanno venire via con un po' di pazienza.

 Se non vi sentite sicuri smontare il portatile, quindi un negozio repiar competente sarà in grado di farlo per voi. Mostra loro questo post e di spiegare che cosa deve essere fatto. Dopo aver letto gli altri messaggi, Brians soluzione ha funzionato al 100%

 Hey, you're welcome and I am sure that Brian would thank you too, but he is an engineer and I am sure he's very busy.

 Brian is the one that actually came up with the fix and to all of those who have been brave enough to apply it, it has worked 100%.

 I always suspected that it was a problem with poor shielding, but then Brian came along and confirmed it.

hey everybody.  i got sick of sending my DV8 back to HP for a repair for this issue so i tried this fix 3 times but i am still having treble/bass and wifi on/off issues.

see my pics below.

i followed the directions and the pics as best as i could (the inside of my DV8 looks a little different) including folding over the tabs on the part under the keyboard as well as on the jumper from under the one keyboard screw up to the foil over the bezel.  on the 3rd try i also added shielding to the route of the wifi wires as they go towards the screen.

can anybody guess why my fix didn't take?  please avoid asking things like "did you follow the pics and descriptions?" because obviously i feel like i did.  i have checked and re-checked.  so please, any info would be helpful not only for me but for others who are trying to do this as well.
