The program only works with 6465b and 4535s.

4530s support is being worked on, as the version updated today had issues with xp.

Currently supported ProBooks: 6465b 4535s

I had the same error with  ProbookFanControl_1_3_1_9.zip (application/zip) 115K version.

Haven't tried: ProbookFanControl_0_3_1_11_alpha.zip, but concerning the file versions I guess I installed the latest one.

The author released "ProbookFanControl_1_3_1_10" with support for 4530s. He later removed this version along with 4530s support untill further analysis.

He also updated version numbering, so ProbookFanControl_0_3_1_11_alpha.zip is the latest, without support for 4530s.

Don't get you hopes up with this tool. It will NOT be able in any way to keep the fan off when the cpu temp is over 40C. It will only allow us to not be locked in the 128 sate using TPFC and increase fan speed from there as temp gets higher.

If hp doesn't release a new bios with a more sane dsdt, that doesn't force the fan on at 40C, we will have to live with what we have or throw this junk out the window...

So we all need to email Meg Whitman, CEO of HP Inc to indicate our dissatisfaction over the unnecessary noise issue we are being caused worldwide by the poorly designed BIOS for the Probook 4x30 series notebooks. While writing one might also indicate one's dissatisfaction with the fact that the AMD Radeon 6490M graphics card is not being supported by HP with the latest AMD drivers and is also too slow to be of any significant benefit when running alongside a Core i5 processor with 8 MB of memory and on boatrd Intel HD graphics.

This is the only way to try to force more resources to be devoted to the matter by their technical development team.

Meg Whitman's email address can be found at http://www.ceoemail.com/se.php?id=9934

Those living in the UK could also consider copying in Nick Wilson, CEO of HP UK using the email address listed at  http://www.ceoemail.com/se.php?id=9182

Yes, they will care! 7 persons who read this thread will write and will be ignored...

This model has recieved five bios updates since more than a year ago. Hp has 100 new models on the pipeline and for sure will not waste more time with this. This issues must be researched in advance! "Is there software to fully controll the fan for this laptop i like? No? Ok, next!"

No big deal. We've learned the hard way, but next time will know better.

Never again, HP!

Just (2573 Views) of this thread. I know where is problem. We must add link to this forum to all HP ProBook 4530s reviews.

When we get a link to this forum in first place in Google for the word "HP", then we get the BIOS update as a gift 🙂

jhoonq,

The thing is that I don't believe most of the other notebook PC manufacturers behave any better than HP do.

Sony are just as bad as HP in longer paying attention to their old models yet they charge nearly twice the price of HP for their top end machines and even then they don't have the very useful Express Card slot that the HP has or the unbelievably user friendly and almost unprecedented level of access to the inside of the machine by the end user that the 4x30 Probook series models have.

An Asus notebook I had in the past had a far more terrible whining fan problem than this HP machine and Asus and the retailer (a small shop in London's Tottenham Court Road) were very difficult about agreeing to let me return it and get a refund.  Both a recent Core i3 Samsung Notebook and an older Samsung Notebook I owned suffered with a light silver effect plastic finish that wore through to the clear plastic below in a few months on the points that got wear.  Sony also supply their notebooks with power supplies that are absolutely enormous in size just to save a few pence on their production.  Also the Core i3 Samsung Notebook my relative now has comes with a so called Samsung Update utility for keeping drivers and Bios up to date except that it doesn't work at all and you have to do it all manually.

As supplied that Samsung Q430 Notebook also could not read CDs in its DVD drive until a BIOS update for the CD/DVD drive had been manually obtained and installed from the TSSTCORP (joint venture between Samsung and Toshiba for making CD/DVD drives) website.  But Samsung itself have never listed this as a known fault against the individual model it applies to and their customer tech suport line did not know about the problem.

The Bios run on the 4x330 series applies to a huge number of laptops and also the Probook models are bought by customers that HP cares more about than retailer customers because each buyer may buy thousands of machines.  Fixing a Bios problem is cheap whereas fixing defective hardware is very expensive and therefore something most notebook manufacturers are going to avoid addressing except when they make the next model.  So what we really need is a large buyer of these Notebooks for a major business to say that his/her end users keep raising this problem.

The way I see it the fan noise problem can only be addressed by a new BIOS update because the BIOS controls the fan trip speed and overrides the Windows 7 settings for Active and Passive Cooling when on mains power or battery or any software utility for directly controlling the fan.  Therefore the noise problem will only be addressed by a new BIOS with a different fan trip speed and/or that returns control of the fan trip speed to the end user.

Also bought this notebook yesterday, and faced the same problem.  Will try to use solutions described in this thread, and will write down about results.

Why does it happening? I feel so angry because of that. I have to spend time searching for solution, have to waist my work time on this, waist nerves. I don't want to use any tfpc, that gives no warranty, and providen "as is". This is very bad.

Thats a great news, though there's nothing said about fixing this issue. Anybody tried it?
