RAM upgrade (ProBook 4520s)

In the current system there is a 2GB DDR3 RAM in one slot another RAM slot is free. I found the following info using PC Wizard - 

Manufacturer :    Samsung
Part Number :    M471B5673FH0-CH9
Type :    DDR3-SDRAM PC3-10700 (667MHz)  -  [DDR3-1333]
Format :    SO-DIMM (67.6 x 15)
Size :    2048MB (2 ranks, 8 banks)

If instsall a 2GB DDR3 1333MHz will it be okay? or I've to check and match other parameters? Is it required to match the manufacturer?

Hi, Sam:

Yes, you can install a PC3 -1333 chip but it has to be PC-10600.

These are the specs you need for a 4 GB module.

• Module Size: 4GB
• Package: 204-pin SODIMM
• Feature: DDR3 PC3-10600
• Specs: DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64 •

If you have a 64 bit operating system installed you may as well max out the memory to 8 GB while it is cheap.

My Laptop is running with a 64bit Win7. :smileyindifferent:

Current RAM is PC3-10700. Why do I need PC3-10600?

Actually I wanted to know the specs to install a 2GB RAM to make it 2+2=4GB. Buying a 4GB RAM will cost more.

Anyway, If I buy a 4GB, toatal RAM will be 6GB. Will it be okay?

Hi:

I don't know that you can buy PC-10700 memory.

The program you have probably rounded up the speed from 667MHz to 700.

If you do not purchase PC-10600 rated DDR3-PC1333 memory, it probably won't work. I know that they sell PC3-10666 and it won't work.

6 GB of memory will be fine. That's what I did. Bought a 4 GB chip. Had 6 GB. Saved some money and bought another 4 GB chip.

If you get another 2 GB module, one day you will say..."I wish I had upgraded to 8 GB of memory."

Then you wasted your money on a 2 GB chip.

But if you want to go with 2 x 2 GB...these are the specs for a 2 GB chip:

• Module Size: 2GB
• Package: 204-pin SODIMM
• Feature: DDR3 PC3-10600
• Specs: DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.35V • 256Meg x 64 •

Is yous 4GB a Samsung RAM?

Current RAM of my machine is Samsung but probably I will not be able to buy Samsung RAM here in our local market. So, which brand you recommends?

Crucial or Kingston.

Here Apacer, Transcend & Twinmos are obtained easily. I've to search more to get Kingston.
