Hi, I have a COMPAQ Presario CQ40 with optiarc DVD RW AD-7561S ATA Device driver, recently the drive doesn't work properly. It can read and burn the disc I have previously used but when it is a new (blank disc) it doesn't read the disc.  It has an error message "Make sure that the disc uses a format that windows recognizes. If the disc is unformatted, you need to format it before using."  The disc is the format that the system would recognize.  I have tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstalled it from device manager but nothing works, tried as well microsoft fixit, still the same.  Hope there is another work around here... thanks..

- thanks for your help!=).. tried to download the apps, and tried to burn a disc, however I got this error message  "CANNOT CONTINUE WITH THE BURNING PROCESS, BECAUSE NO BURNING DEVICE WAS DETECTED."  What I have noticed as well that on My Computer the drive previously says "CD/DVD-RW Drive' but now it just say "CD Drive". Does it mean that the DVD/CD-RW drive doesn't work anymore, but it does burn/add files to the disc I was able to previously burn files.

- thank you for the help again...=)

Hi, Mumbodog.. thank you for helping me out.. I tried this link previously when I did some research first, but I tried to run it again so I can get the exact message after the diagnostic. The message are "Media CD/DVD is not rewritable" and "Media CD/DVD is not readable,"  but the disc I was using is rewritable both for the DVD (DVD-RW) and CD (CD-RW). Could it be the problem is the hardware? Thank you.

Yes it can either be a hardware or firmware problem.

It tells me optical drives do not last forever, I have a pile of dead ones from all Makes of laptops and Desktops. Sometimes just removing and reinserting the drive will clean the contacts where it connects to the motherboard and solve some issues, just did this for an Acer laptop the other day, the optical drive was preventing the Acer notebook from doing a bios post, essentially mimicking a dead laptop motherboard, pulled the optical drive and reseated it several times to cure the problem, some makes models are harder that others to remove the optical drive.

It tells me you did not find the solution for your problem, sorry about that.

If you need help with HP printer issues see this page for some diagnostic tools for printers.

If these tools do not help make a detailed post on the proper printer board and ask for help, PrintDoc is an expert member when it comes to printers, if you get no replies to your question in a day or so, send him a private message.
