I would like to say I googled this same exact problem and was led to this forum. I tried and tried different options that were listed to no avail. I finally found the thread where the solution you posted also worked for another user. I updated my software with the link that you had posted and I also have resolved my problems and touchpad is working better than ever. I would like to thank you very much for helping amateurs like us solve these problems. I don't think you know how much threads like these truly help people from all around the world. I understand you do this on your own time and it is not taken for granted.

Hi Daniel, this is the 3rd time I have reinstalled Win7 Home Prem on my wife's laptop hoping to fix this problem. I have uninstalled the Synaptics drivers/reinstalled them, tried your links and drivers but still nothing from the touch pad. I cannot scroll or use the buttons. The light above the touchpad is white like it should. After my last uninstall of the Synaptics drivers, Microsoft automatically installed a driver called PS/2 Compatible Mouse Driver shown in the device manager after I restarted. I again clicked update driver, and it installed Synaptics 15.0.17.4, 5/27/2010. I then restarted, still doesnt work. This is getting ridiculous, please help. I have an HP Pavilion DV5 1251nr

So that was my problem. I was installing Synaptics drivers and I should install ALPS...
Now everything works fine, thanks!
One note - I used the link you gave me to install Win 7. It is written that my model is 2224ea and according to quote below:
"For dv20xx, dv21xx, dv22xx, dv23xx, dv24xx models (example: dv2367am means that Your model is dv23xx):
Synaptics TouchPad"
I should install Synaptics.. Or did I just misunderstood sth?

Hi,
I'm so sorry. I gave you by mistake wrong informations.
I forgot that this models have ALPS and Synaptics TouchPad.
Uninstall ALPS TuchPad driver.
Resource:
Uninstalling Software in Windows 7
Uninstall or change a program in Windows 7
Install correct driver:
Synaptics TouchPad here (ver 15.0.17.4 for 32/64 bit Win7)
Notes:
I think that you may have problem with scrolling because you do not know that by default Two - Finger Scrolling is enabled. If you want to use only one finger for scrolling then check the link below:
How to change Two - Finger Scrolling on One - Finger Scrolling in Synaptics TouchPad software.

Well you gave me the right information. Like I said I tried plenty Synaptics drivers and they didn't work.
The problem was I only had basic Synaptic menu, no mather which drivers I installed (with no scrolling options in the menu).
I installed ALPS driver and it works now. Seems I have ALPS touchpad or there is something wrong with these instructions.
Pozdrawiam 🙂
