Hi,
I would like to know if it is at all possible upgrade the graphic card of my laptop (EliteBook 8440p).
I went to Best Buy and they simply told me that it is not possible for all laptops, which seemed to me not really possible, I checked and it is not possible for some laptops, so is there any way for me to know if mine is upgradable (I surely hope so, since my graphic card is 64mb, I wonder why they even bothered putting one if their choice was 64mb...)
Thank you very much
Matteo

Hi,
This series has two configurations for video card:
- NVIDIA NVS 3100M graphics with 512 MB dedicated gDDR3 video memory
- Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD
If your machine uses #2: stop, it's there, noway we can upgrade the video card w/o buying many things may be more expensive than buying a new machine.
If your machine uses #1: in theory YES we can but you have to check to see because nearly all dedicated graphics cards are soldered to the motherboard and removing it = buying new machine. Even you could remove it and swap to a new one your machine will be hot like a heater.
In short: They are right, not like desktops, very hard to upgrade CPU and video card on laptops. Yours is the same.

Hi,
For only 64Mb, it is an Intel graphics card, which is on #2 above.

Hi,
If your graphics card is damaged, then yes, it is replaceable. If you still have warranty, have HP do it. If you don't, it involved gutting the computer and re-assembling it. I was just talking with an HP representative, they said if yours doesn't have a graphics card in it, it is impossible to install a new one.
